Private & Independent Schools
| At Sidwell, they cannot bring lunch, so the option is on campus (which is actually quite good) or going out. In the old days, the kids went off campus much more than they do now. |
That's odd. What's the reason behind that rule? |
No, the GDS clothing I observed in no way, shape, or form can be considered "$$$ hipster clothing." I was actually appalled at how sloppy and dumpy so many of the kids dressed. Norwood or Beauvoir, here we come . . . |
Make sure you have an ample supply of coordinating big bows. |

Setting aside the question of whether a $30K high school should or should not at least offer lunch - - -
It is entirely possible to eat a healthy lunch every single day by hitting the Safeway adjacent to GDS. They have this amazing thing there called a "produce section." Yogurt with free spoons. Single-serve skim milk. Made-to-order sandwiches. Bottles of water!! |
No refrigeration facilities, and quite frankly, between salad/sandwich bars and a variety of freshly prepared organic hot meals that are part of the tuition, why would they want to? |
Agreed. It's also possible to eat a crappy lunch every day of HS and not be the worse for it 30 years later. I seem to recall buying "lunches" at my HS cafeteria that consisted of 3 pieces of cheesecake and a diet Pepsi. I survived with my BMI well outside the danger zone.

Worth noting, too, that by choosing carefully, going back for seconds, etc., any high schooler worth his or her salt can create a very unhealthy lunch even out of the best ingredients! |
| I agree with 22:21. In fact, best to go eat all that junk while you are young and can get away with it!! Live a little! I lifetime of eating right can start in one's twenties!! |
