| Molly= drug or dog |

Yes Molly reminds me of the drug
|
No, that's Maggie. I work with a Margaret/Maggie and a Molly. Both good names. I wouldn't let the dog names turn you off. There is a little boy in my DD's daycare who is named Max, the number one dog name. He is adorable. When I see him I don't think of dogs. |
| Both are good choices. I wouldn't worry about the "dog's name" thing for Molly. I grew up with a ton of Mollys and several of my friends have named their children Molly. It has never been an issue. |
| The drug thing is moot. I too love Molly but many people do respond with the dog's name thing. Maddie is probably the most common girl name out there. |
| Molly |
Why is the drug thing moot? I think it's an important consideration. |
I think it's moot, too, because in a few years it may not be called Molly. Think of Mary Jane. When you meet a little girl named Mary Jane, is your first thought pot? Probably not. |
My first thought is shoes. (But actually I don't think I've ever met anybody named Mary Jane.) |
Yes. My first thought when I hear that name is pot. I don't think it's moot. People will call it something else in a few years, but they will wonder what the parents were thinking to pick that name at the time that use of the drug under that name was rampant. |
| I find it hilarious that so many people are yelling out for Molly. You are totally out of touch if you name your child that as a whole generation will first think of a drug when your child is mentioned. It's like naming your child weed or crack. But your call. |
I'm not keen on Molly because it sounds like a nickname to me (sorry) but I disagree about the drug reference. It's not like we're all involved in the drug culture, and it will fade from current pop culture by the time the child is older. I might feel differently if the name were Ecstasy or something else that is not a traditional girl's name. |
| I love the name Molly but it does seem like there are a lot of dogs named Molly…. |
+1. When I hear Mary Jane I think pot. May be why nobody has that name, or they just go by Mary. |
| I personally prefer Mathilda / Mattie for M names, and Adeline / Addie over Madeline. |
