HHI: Just shy of $200k
This year: $6,000 of which $1300 went to our church, $1000 went to Heifer, $1000 went to Senior Services in our town, $500 went to our undergrad, $500 to Salvation Army, $100 to my law school, and the rest went out in $50-$100 increments to whatever runs/walks/whathaveyou that our friends asked us to support. |
400
12K to church 5K to alma maters 5K total to various other worthy charities (ie, $1500 to House of Ruth in 2013) Non monetary donations of about $2000 |
300k, 3k to church |
$350k
2-3 thousand. I know that is pathetic and hope to increase it once the kids are done with expensive daycare. |
HHI - $625k
Donations - $0 Guilt - None |
Karma- none |
About 3% of gross income |
We make DCUM middle class HHI. We donate a few hundred every year. |
This is right around where I am. $900K of HHI.. $5K of donations to alma mater - as for the rest, we have made the decision to help the people directly around us when they need it rather than soaking it into a charity where we really cannot see the outcome. |
If you donate because you're worried about karma then you're not a "good person" either. |
$130k
$0 donations except for street sense a few times a year and maybe $50 here and there for major disasters or for a friend who previously had cancer. Living in the city with 2 kids, we don't have a lot to go around, and to be honest, if we had more money I'd spend it on saving for the kids' education or actually taking a damn vacation or maybe even buying a car. I don't have guilt either. I vote democrat and I don't care if my taxes go up, but I believe the gov't should use what they take to help marginalized people. And as an atheist, I sure as hell won't donate to any church. I work at a nonprofit and am dubious how much good we do anyway... |
You're very foolish if you think this way. Giving expecting to receive something/anything in return is the absolute opposite of what anyone should be doing. You obviously don't understand karma and dharma. |
Over the years I came to the realization that so many people give as a status symbol right along with buying their big house and their luxury vehicles. We've given up on the status charity giving and contribute to the lives of people we know.

HHI - $230k
Monetary donations - about $600 plus $200 or so in used household items. Would like to be more, but we spend a lot on medical care for SN so that's it for now. One of us works in a public service field and we feel like that is our additional in-kind giving. |
350K. About $1,500 annually to various fundraisers. |
