Could Springfield really be a destination?

Schools right around the town center aren't great, but further west they are some of the best in Nova. The types of stores coming in mean people who evaluate areas for a living think this will be a success. People love a town center...especially in the warm months. Shame it will debut in Oct right as it gets cold. Area prices will go up, esp. west of the town center. Looks like there is country club down that way according to Google maps.

Which is exactly why the streetcar on Columbia Pike needs to be built. Metro would have been even better of course, but that's 4x as expensive.

That would have helped way back when Skyline first developed - don't think it will help fix what is broken around there. Springfield is going to be a great little respite from the points north. Still a very reasonable commute, with options at that.

Except there is next to nothing for sale in West and burke. Nobody seems to want to leave.

West Springfield is good but this isn't west Springfield.

Original home owners (senior citizens) are starting to move out, at least in our subdivsion. If you don't mind buying a house with wall paper and blue carpeting you can find some decent deals.

It is a hop skip and jump away. WS is far enough away to avoid the traffic associated with the town center while getting home, but so super-close for purposes of enjoying what it will offer.

I live in Springfield (off of Alban Road) and I'm very excited about the new town center. It will be nice to have higher-end retail and restaurants nearby without having to drive to Tysons or Fair Oaks.

I've also noticed home prices starting to creep up in my neighborhood. I think people are starting to realize what a convenient location it is, even if the houses are a bit older. On the high-end, there are some gorgeous newer homes on Pohick Road. I would love to have one of those, but my budget can't afford it.

Great neighborhoods west of the town center. Pricing will creep up with the new development just like others have. It will be a good time to buy...if anything will come on the market!

Growth and development is cyclical. Springfield had a boom in the late 70's-early 80's. I remember that Princess Diana made an appearance at the Springfield Mall Macy's back in the day.

Then, the area around the mall went on the decline.

It's due for a redevelopment boom. Look at all of the office development that's happened/will happen in the vicinity - National Geospatial Agency, a new Embassy Suites, possibly a new FBI headquarters.

If you build it, they (people with $) will come.

+1 I am actually watching this market in hopes of a move there. Great chance for easy equity.

Yep! We live in the area and would like to stay here and move to a bigger house, but there is very little on the market. I think when we do see something, we will have to move fast, which is difficult for us because we have a lot going on in our lives right now.

It will most certainly help development, even now. Look at property values around Metro stations through NoVa, in particular in Arlington. Clarendon was an absolute dump in the 1960's.

We live in the area, and bought last year...I hope prices continue to go up. We bought an older home in a nice neighborhood that needs updates, would love to see increased values.
