I still don't get how this is a rough situation.. unless your husband is dating his friend or something? It sucks but I really don't get the drama.

Totally speculating here, but could your husband have been with his friend during the incident, and he is not telling you? Maybe he was responsible for the fight breakout and feels really guilty? If not ... Then why would he be so upset? I agree it does sound strange, unless he is just using it as an excuse to not communicate with the family.

OP here - I'm a white collar defense attorney and my husband was, previously, a federal AUSA. I don't have any other friends who have been in jail, but I've dealt with many clients facing time and looked at quite a few sentencing memos.

Agree. This isn't a rough situation unless the "friend" is actually a close family member. Agree with PP, he's upset about something else he's not telling you.
