Anyone at Sidwell Friends think that the NBC series "Crisis" hits close to home

Not me. I must really be a nobody.

Another nobody parent here who doesn't spend a lot of time worrying that my kids will be kidnapped. Poor DC parents! The list of worries is so long: will Coco get into Princeton? Will Tripp be shut out of Prize Day? Will Maxwell be kidnapped on the way to lacrosse practice?

LMAO.

I have never once worried that my children will be kidnapped.

A close friend has had death threats against her, her husband, and their children. Some not at all credible, and some terrifying. She spend years having security know everything about her family. Where she was, when she and her husband fought, and about what, everything. It's not funny, and it's nothing to write "LMAO" about. And, yes, "poor parents" is something that I think is a reasonable thought when you think of these families who are, really, always at risk in a way that most of the rest of us are not. Grow up.

No. You grow up. It is a television show. You need to learn to differentiate reality from fiction.

How self centered do you have to be to think that television shows are about you?

Are you the poster who started the recent thread lamenting how you couldn't afford tuition because you refused to "sell out" and take a job that would have resulted in many deaths?

Good call, 8:01. Must be her. The arms dealer/chemical warfare researcher that would never tell us her job!

No, I'm not. I have no idea what that other thread is about. The earlier string that I quoted was NOT about the show, it was about a poster saying she's not concerned about these things, and a later poster referring to the "poor" Washington parents who do. I don't have any reason to worry about these security concerns for my family at all, but many people in Washington do, including a close friend. It is not funny, it is not something to write LMAO about. It is sad and frustrating and the reality of living in a world where there are people who want to do harm. I would never, ever write anything like LMAO about a soldier's physical risk being in theater. Nor would I write such a thoughtless phrase about children who are at risk for being targets of sexual predators as has happened at some local schools. Bad things happen, and they sometimes come in the form of threats against our families and children. That may not be how your family feels at risk, but it is a reality for others. So, yes, please grow up and stop your stupid, thoughtless comments about laughing your ass off that someone else faces threats to their spouse and children. How narrow is your experience that you can't understand how tasteless that is?

Then maybe it's time for your friend to remove herself from a situation that causes her and you to be basket cases.

I think the reason some people are snorting at the idea of DC parents worrying about their kids being kidnapped is that that while no doubt there are a small number people in DC - those in certain top-level or highly visible government jobs, the extremely wealthy or extremely famous - for whom being kidnapped is a genuine risk, there is a far greater number who would like to think (or would like others to think) that they are so terribly important that they have to worry about their families being kidnapped. It's just another status symbol, like a security detail or a bulletproof car or a top-secret security clearance or a White House pass.

My bad. But you really do need to get together with the other poster -- you're perfect together. To 8:44 -- I love the arms dealer angle!
