Hairstyles for Different Ages?

40 can't possibly be the new 30, but plenty of 40 year olds do look great for 40 year olds. There isn't really any need for the frump to set in at any age.

I'm 45 and have very long hair. I decided short hair made me look as though I'm trying to look young. I think long hair is the "old lady" do of my generation. I'm tired of thinking about how old or young I look. As long as I'm healthy and DH likes how I look, I'm OK.

In middle America, you still women who get that "matron cut and perm" at a certain age. On the coasts, however, that has totally changed and especially in the bigger metro areas. Now, I don't know anyone in DC or NYC who has short because of their age, and certainly no one under 50, or maybe even 60, with the "matron short perm." I wonder what will happen as we all turn 60 and 70...

No matron short perm for those under 60, but around here, it has been replaced by the only slightly less matronly severe bob for upper Northwest moms over 40. Even those who wear their hair a little longer than a proper bob too often cut it straight across. It's a look that matches their Dansko clogs.

oh no, i wear dansko clogs and have a bob....

Now, PP, let's give the 40 yo more credit. I'll meet you halfway - 40 is the new 35!

Her style isn't bad -- the extreme blond is outrageous though, on anyone over about 20.

This is crap. Lots of people who are really blonde have been really blonde all their lives and there is nothing extreme about it. Yes, I am one. I am really blonde. Always have been and no, didn't help it out at 20 but, did have to start at a bit over around 30/first child. I am certain it isnt "exterme" or fake looking too. It looks like I am supposed to look. What is it on this board with all the nasty snarks about blonde moms. I mean, if I didn't think we are all way too grown-up and beyond that sort of thing, I would believe it might be jealousy or ballessness that the snarker can't get away with it herself. I have never based an opinion or made a rude copmment about someone I don't know based solely on that person's haircolor... good God! That type of reaction to someone's appearance is almost equatable to racism or bigotry (ok, maybe I go too far but I am so sick of the nasty comments about "blonde moms" on these forums).

No. 40 is still 40. That doesn't mean 40 can't be fashionable and fit. They may be well-maintained, but, with very few exceptions, people look their age.

Yep. It's the Upper Northwestie mom duty uniform. Time for some Friendship Heights shopping and a 21st century 'do?
