Has anyone managed to chop their cell phone bill?

I am very happy with the Virgin Mobile plan and phone. I bought the phone from them and pay $45/month for 1200 minutes and unlimited text and data. A lot cheaper than Verizon. Virgin uses the Sprint network so I don't have any issues with coverage. The only downside is that you cannot use their phones when you are overseas so if you frequently travel internationally, that way be a problem.

We switched to TMobile from AT&T. It's less expensive (about $50/mo less) and we don't use a ton of data, but it's not as good as AT&T data. For example I have trouble getting on YouTube unless on wifi. I think they selectively throttle sites/apps. Never had a problem with email, browsing, navigation, etc. though.

However I did see a notice that they are increasing the basic data allotment so it may be an even better deal now.

Has anyone negotiated a cheaper rate with Verizon? A few contacts have told me they spoke with a customer loyalty department at Verizon that offered them a monthly discount but it also extended their contract. I haven't tried yet myself but need to do it.

I had Sprint for almost 20 years (since pre-PCS network) and was on a minimal $49 plan that included 250 anytime voice minutes, unlimited night/weekend voice and NO data or texts (I paid 20 center per text and a lot for data, which I avoided using) with a non-Smart phone. I bought a smart phone for $70, and have a plan that includes 300 minutes voice and unlimited data and texts for $35/month. I save money and use my phone a lot for data and text now and I have the same network I've always had.

For $25 a month you get 1000 minutes with Net10.

Unlimited everything (data too) $25/month with Republic. Coverage is as good as Verizon from whom I switched.

Phone choices are limited, but the Moto X has been great. Uses Sprint Cell system and routes you through your WiFi when available.

Boost Mobile (Sprint network which is not quite as good as Verizon but works well in the city) $40 month, unlimited talk, text and data.

Yep. DH called ATT on Sunday - got our bill lowered from $250 to $180 a month.

we have 4 iPhones, unlimited texting and 10gigs.

Not the PP but AT&T is offering reduced prices across the board when you get a family plan. If AT&T doesn't want to give you the new price threaten to leave. There's a price war going on now.

Agree. I also recently reduced our bill by about $40 a month with ATT. They are actively competing with TMobile. Verizon might be too. We have 3 iphones and 10gb of shared data, unlimited talk and text and it comes to about $165 after taxes.

I've been with Boost for years, even before they introduced their Shrinkage program. The phone selection was the only downside in the past, but now they've added the iPhone, the Galaxys, and a bunch of new 4G handsets, Boost is a good option.

Moved to TMobile from AT&T. They paid our early termination fee, and gave us trade-in credit on our phones. We pay $80/month for 2 lines, unlimited data, calling, texting, including unlimited data roaming and texting while abroad. That monthly doesn't include phones.
