s/o can someone explain why I need to be concerned about 1 day unexcused absence?

Why is this even a question? Just take your child wherever, and as a courtesy inform the teacher in advance. End of story.

OP here. PP, because I don't see a downside and wondered if I was missing something. Clearly, you don't think I was missing anything, but you could take a lesson in writing to make a positive impression. You reinforce why I took a year-long break from DCUM.

Depends on the school system, but in MCPS, you can't get a zero. The lowest grade is 50%.

No you can get a 0 if you do not hand anything in. You can not get less than 50 percent for something handed in.

Because the parents finally started bringing the kids on time. "After today’s 15 minute hearing, Senior Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Alejandra Amato told reporters the charges were dismissed because the Denicores have delivered their children to school on time all but one day since their last court appearance March 14." http://www.leesburgtoday.com/news/article_9e95248e-b0d5-11e1-98f9-0019bb2963f4.html

My dear sillybilly OP,

I've been using DCUM practically since its inception, and have taken the time to pen wonderfully supporting and helpful posts for OPs who truly needed it. You didn't, so I dashed off a note, caring exactly nothing about making an impression.

But you win! Here I am responding to your childish pouting just because my information wasn't dressed up and presented on a silver platter

Enjoy you trip.

+100 and a former school teacher here- travel is worth so much more than one day at school! go for it!

Most sick days are unexcused...do you worry about those? Of course not.

In theory an un- excused absence means your child cannot make up any missed work, but I have yet to encounter a teacher who enforces this rule. The practical side of Un - excused absences is it helps the school recognize potential problems at home. Truancy can warrant the state sending out a social worker if it's a consistent problem or if there is a significant change in a child's attendance.

All sick days are excused.

Some schools have perfect attendance awards. So that's one downside if your kid cares about that.

Your sentence structure is appalling.

Please keep your child in school.

I plan to tell the teacher and have her do whatever school work she gets, but do I need to be concerned she has 1 day of unexcused absence for the year? I'll be taking her out of school a couple of hours early the day we travel as well.

Nothing to be concerned about. if she's only missing 1.5 days, teacher probably won't give her work to bring home and she'll make up when she gets back to school. We know kids at my DD's HGC where they have tons of work miss 2 weeks to travel overseas.
