Co-sign to poster above. Stopped snowing mid-afternoon and it was less than 6 inches. Get the streets plowed. |
My small street is cleared but I can tell it will be icy tomorrow, if not on the streets then on the sidewalks. |
Schools should be open because the county should be plowed (although it isn't) because it has been 8 hours since the snow ended? |
There is a reason- they are out of money and supplies. All those plows sitting on the side of the road when there is no snow in sight ate up all the money for when there really is snow. |
Yes, I'm guessing that a lot of the sidewalks will be snowy or icy tomorrow. Not everybody gets to school in a motor vehicle. |
What is your source for this information? |
The snow stopped around noon and school does not start until 7:20, plows work at night, and they have various machines to clear sidewalks and stuff that also work at night. It was 4 inches in most places and 6 in some, which should not close schools for 2 days. I think they just took the easy route because others had closed, but the difference is with MCPS, they have no intention of making up the days so these are just days lost of learning. |
It's really amazing how many people there are who believe that they are qualified to administer MCPS because they send their children to a school in MCPS, read about the weather on line, and drive around in a car. |
Look, they are plowing, putting the snow in huge piles, but there is ice on the sidewalks.
Many students go to school on foot and let's be realistic it's going to be very dangerous. My street was plowed earlier but I saw two cars skidding earlier this afternoon. |

Holy crap. Do you remember what grandparents used to say. "We walked over 2 miles to school in the cold and snow every day and didn't complain!!" I feel like I am turning into one of them because of all the helicopter mommies not wanting their kids at a bus stop for 5min in the "polar vortex" (gasp, what scary words!!) And now those 4-6 inches are too much for little Mary to walk to school. How come DCPS barely get off then? MCPS - it is winter. We live in an area that snows just like 30+ other states in this nation. Get your act together. You knew about this snow 5 days ago. You couldn't plan for it? So frustrating. |
thank god the aftercare will be open tomorrow, otherwise I will have no choice but to take them to the office. |
Do you have a child who walks to school? And I'm pretty sure that MCPS actually did plan for the snow ahead of time. Why do you assume they didn't? But "plan for" does not mean "remove". MCPS could not remove the snow ahead of time. |
I have a child that walks to school and I wanted the schools open. DCPS are open and they are walkers. What is the point? Every time there is some snow or ice, we cancel. The roads are plowed, some are a little snowy or icy but if it stays cold for a week, will they cancel a week of school because it hasn't melted? I mean really |
While all the companies and agencies in the area and schools in nearby counties can, MCPS can't! Give me a break! |
