LOL! Got the postcard but the new cans have not been sent yet. I live near Dunbar and put up with all the traffic problems during construction and the #$%^ ers haven't even opened the pool to the neighborhood like they promised (like Wilson). |
I've seen her at almost every education meeting and event I go to (and I go to a lot). So I know she gets out there... |
what! you are racist! Rhee was making a huge difference, you probably don't like orientals. |
| Garrison isn't handicap accessible. Isn't DC violating laws by having a school like that? |
|
Wow. Seriously reconsidering my vote. I'm LIVID, actually.
Gray may think he has the parents in Garrison's boundaries covered because so many of us send our kids OOB or to charter schools. But I think he's reading his audience wrong. He should have known that when there was so much neighborhood pushback from people who may or may not have kids or kids in DCPS over the proposal to close Garrison last year. I'm so pissed that I'm going to actually have to read Shallal's "plan" for DC schools and then maybe vote for him. And when he loses maybe even (GAG) Catania. |
| I feel like I will need to vote against Gray, but am so unsure of who to vote FOR. |
| Yes - me too. FUMING about this (as a potential Garrison parent). I wasn't supporting Gray anyway. Whether he sees this as a misstep or not is, at this point, irrelevant. I guess he had other people to take care of in other parts of town so Garrison families can just suck it?! |
| Adding another reminder to email your Councilmember and the At-large members and let them know how you feel. This is CRAP! |
| Wow, is that pulling further funding from Bruce Monroe than what the petition circulating was trying to get back? |
|
Why do people believe they should get something from reprogramming - redirecting funds from unspent categories - during the next 6 months rather than as part of the regular budget process and capital improvement plan?
I don't get the perspective that anyone was "robbed" here. |

Before you go to all the trouble, you should make sure that this isn't just to reallocate FY 2014 funds. As an example, I don't think DCI is ready to spend yet, i.e., Walter Reed is not finalized, and may not until FY 2015 (October of this year). So they may be moving funds to where they can be spent this fiscal year.
Emma Brown does not truly research her articles, she just quotes and puts whatever DCPS sends out into her articles. Where's the context? What does it all mean? Bad reporting. |
As a sidenote, the Dunbar pool is now open to the community on weekends only (sigh). 2-5 Saturday and 9-5 Sunday. Entrance is on the O St side of the building. |
In looking at the lists, you can see that some of the reductions are because the projects are over and there are small amounts left. This is not a true "reduction." The DCI decision is because they can't grant the funds to DCI as a non-profit non governmental entity. So DCI will have to figure out a way to get a governmental entity to accept the funds on their behalf. A bureaucratic problem and incredibly annoying, but they can figure it out. Garrison is getting pushed back to summer of 2015, pushing the renovations back a year. A bummer for the Garrison parents but some schools have been waiting for 2 decades. |
| from what i heard DCI got screwed. they just took the money away and are not postponing it. Guess DC doesn't really want quality secondary programming in DC--certainly not if it might show up DCPS' complete lack of ideas and progress. |
| DCI lost out because a ruling was made that the grant money it was going to get could not legally be spent on it. That's legal inflexibility, not mayoral impropriety. |
