Try North Bethesda, along Rockville Pike, between the White Flint and Grosevenor Metros. SFH and TH sometimes pop up in your price range.

Silver Spring. But maybe broaden search to further from metro for a greater range of houses.

I wanted to tell the OP that there is a real bias for Bethesda vs other areas of the county on DCUM. There are plenty of nice places in Silver Spring and other neighborhoods.

I'm one of the North Kensington posters but I would have to agree with this idea. Easy commute and nice area.

OP is not getting into Rock Creek Hills for $600K. Rock Creek Forest would be possible, though. There's a house now on Grubb for $575K.

I normally agree, but since Walter Reed moved, the commute to Bethesda is pretty bad, as far as I know. They moved a ton of people without any infrastructure improvements.

There are nice places in Silver Spring. However the commute to NIH, especially after the Walter Reed move, will not be easy.

I commute from Woodmoor to Bethesda naval. Now that they have opened the turn lane on Jones bridge my commute is about 15 minutes t rush hour (I do go in the back gate). I hear that coming down the pike from Rockville/north Bethesda is awful, even though it is much shorter.

I am starting to lean takoma park too. My husband claimed the commute would be worse than from north kensington but I don't know if that's true. In college I had friends that lived in takoma park and I have always wanted to live there.

From Takoma Park, you just take East-West Hwy (410) to Bethesda. Until we get the Purple Line...

Not necessarily. From Woodside you can make it to the medical center in 12 minutes taking back roads (Linden, Jones Mill). This EW crossing is faster during rush hour than NW down Wisconsin or Connecticut.

"Just"! The problem is the traffic on East-West Hwy is terrible, and there aren't a lot of alternatives.
