Since when did AU Park become a $1.5m range neighborhood?

The metro is far from most homes in the neighborhood, and I hardly consider walkability to the spring valley shops to be much of a positive. Move 5 minutes farther down Mass Ave or River Rd over the MD line and get the same architecture but the excellent Westbrook schools! Plus walkability to Friendship Heights from some streets! Or, move east and get thyself closer to a metro stop and some better commercial areas along CT Ave.

Class sizes are smaller at Janney which is an excellent school, and the middle school is also very well regarded now. I have actually thought about moving over the MD line because we could get more for our money (or at least more choices) but it hits me as a negative to change schools. Also, I believe it is a longer walk to Friendship Heights unless you are really close to Western.

Ditto the previous poster. Classes are smaller at Janney than they are across Western Ave at Westbrook elementary.

This house was beautifully done (very well styled) and I think that helped it get it's price so quickly. Good for me though since I live right near by.

We chose AU Park over neighborhoods just over the MD line b/c we liked the neighborhood so much. Lots of families, Turtle Park and Wilson Pool, sidewalks throughout the neighborhood (by contrast, we saw lots of neighborhoods w/ no sidewalks over the MD line), etc. We're 5 blocks from the Tenleytown metro which is great. At the time we bought, it also seemed like we were getting a little more for our money in AU Park. Not sure if that would be the case now.

Im not surprised at all. Houses in my neighborhood Petworth that are walking distance to metro and fully renovated are not going for 750K and up (and two actually just went for 830k and up)...we thought about selling and buying WoTP for better schools but damn we still can't afford it! the whole City is crazy. My coworker is buying a small two bedroom row house way down in Ward 8 that needs upates and is paying almost 200k for that. it aint just AU park thats sky rocketing!
