Single on Valentine's Day

I'm widowed. My brother in law (late DH's big brother) sent me a bouquet of flowers, totally made my day. Hosted a sleepover so I'd be busy with kids instead of dwelling on not celebrating Valentines Day.

OP,

I'm married. My husband and I never exchange anything for V Day. It's a Hallmark holiday (aka - money maker).

I hate Valentine's Day.

Epic sex marathons? Good grief.

Aww, that's sweet.

That was very thoughtful.

well, my husband told me he wanted a divorce on v-day (yesterday). Its better to be alone sometimes.

If you can, serve him papers on April Fool's Day. What an ass he is.

I've been divorced for a few years now so I usually don't have plans on Valentines Day. This year ex-DH sent me nice chocolates with a card that said, "You used to be my Valentine. Now you're just a pal of mine. Happy Valentines Day." It was really sweet and creative, and he did nothing like that when we were married!

What a mature thing to do!

That's rare.

My day started out rough, but ended with wine and a group of great friends. Wouldn't have had my valentine's day any other way.

I hated v day when I was single and I really don't care for it now that ive been married for 7 years. It's a hallmark made up holiday and has always felt contrived to me. I think it is much more meaningful to celebrate the unique nuances that are part of your relationship.

Well, I'm married with children and I didn't get a card or dinner.

Ditto.

And I know this doesn't make you feel better OP, but believe me, the last place you want to be on Valentine's Day night is a supposedly decent restaurant, especially when it falls on a Friday. Totally amateur night, like eating out on New Year's Eve. The kitchen will be churning out pre-made specials and looking to turn tables quickly. No thank you!

Boyfriend just broke up with me a month ago so this V Day really was depressing. Single mom.

Totally agree .... we also don't exchange gifts or even cards. We've been happily married for 20+ years.

We actually don't exchange gifts for any special occasions but do so when we find something or think of something that the other would like. It is amazing how much Hallmark and other similar outfits have managed to commercialize things to a point where one is felt to be lacking if one does not follow the crowd.
