I Margaret an old lady name?

It's not an old lady name. It's a classic name, which is a little different.

Margaret is a classic English-language name.

+1 It seems that many DCUM posters like "creative" names. Personally, I prefer traditional ones, so yes--I love Margaret, just as I also love Katharine and Elizabeth! If you prefer to call her Maggie, I think it's a very cute nickname but think calling her Margaret is great, too!

I think the opposite is true of DCUM! They only like the MOST tradish names.

I think it is a good name, nothing like Gertrude. Maggie is adorable! I know a toddler named Maggie. It works!

I'm a Margaret but have always gone by Maggie. I didn't like Margaret as a child, but now I appreciate its sophistication and classyness. I wish people called me Margaret!

Seriously, who gives a flying fuck? Do you like the name? Does it go well with your last name? Use it, and stop coming here for arguably one of the most important decisions of your life.

No, it's a classic.

I know two girls with it. They are both called "Maggie." It's adorable.

I love it! Classic, but not too common. I know two teen Margarets -- one is poised, self-possessed and chic; the other is quiet until you get to know her, then high-spirited and adventurous. My bet is they'll both be dynamite old ladies.

I think Maggie is absolutely adorable for a little girl, and Margaret is a classy, strong name for a grown woman.

Do it!

Since my friend has a toddler named Margaret--no, I don't think of it as an old-lady name. It's a classic name with several cute nicknames for little girls--Daisy, Maisie, Meg, and Maggie.

I grew up in New England and had 3 Margaret's in my 100 person class. One Margaret, one Meg and one Molly and know others who are Maggies. Have never thought of it as an old person name, just classic and traditional. Agree that it is similar to Elizabeth.

I liked this name. Nickname Maggie or Meg. DH vetoed and said it was old lady. Several friends said the same.

I still like it.

We considered Margaret nn Molly for our youngest, but went with another classic name instead. I still love it.

Just don't name her Mary Margaret. It's a beautiful combination of names, but, perhaps as a result, there are many, many Mary Margarets out there. Or maybe I just went to Catholic school for too long!

Another nickname is Meg
