Wood floors always dusty, what am i doing wrong?

We have a HEPA air filter from Aprilaire on our furnace. I notice a huge difference in the dust level in our house from when I lived elsewhere w/o such a good filter. We don't wear shoes in the house, keep food to the kitchen area, and vaccum the entry area and kitchen with the Electrolux Ergorapido cordless vac as needed. Although, after 5 years, it doesn't hold a charge like it used to. The maid comes every 2 weeks to do a full clean. I am often barefoot in our house, so it drives me crazy when there's stuff on the floor. This time of year is killing me with the salt and sand getting tracked inside.

I know it's possible, as after our bi-weekly cleaning lady comes it's clean and stays clean for a bit, but I just can't replicate it. It's 10am and I've already swept 4 times.

Swiffer seems to be the best bet, but it ends up pushing dirt at the front of where I"m swiffering. THe broom works but leaves behind dust and I always seem to miss corners. I guess if I got out my Dyson & did every corner, it'd be good - but that's a lot to do. I have 3 kids and they leave crumbs around the table after every meal. We do have a no-shoes policy

Is there magic broom/tool that would help me? A broom that handles the dust and gets all the crumbs A sound technique? How do you keep your floors clean!?

Change the filter in your blower (HVAC) (assuming you have forced air)

This cordless dyson changed my life. it's light and easy to use, just every other day or every 2 days and all the dust/hair gets sucked up. no cords, charges well, has great suction.

In this weather with all the sand and salt You need a mudroom, no shoes in the house, vacuum mudroom entrance daily , hepa filter and a cleaning crew at least every two weeks.

Is your home older? If you have a lot of drafts, outdoor impurities could be getting in.

I have the same problem, OP, and I am convinced it is the air ducts that need cleaning!

I dust, then vacuum then mop weekly, we have clean kids and no shoes, yet we STILL have dust. So it must be the air ducts and filters.

Now I have to convince DH that we need an air duct cleaning...

PP again - it's the indeterminate dust that gets me. (I sweep the crumbs in the kitchen and leaf debris at the front door on a daily basis)

All animals and humans in the house must be closely shaved to prevent accumulation of unsightly dandruff and hair on the floor.

What is a green sponge mop

This. And whatever you do DO NOT get a dog.

Skin will shed no matter what

Try a dyson stick vac with the fluffy head. My wood floors always felt dusty until I used this.

+1 but also dust just happens every day and you still have to wet mop periodically.

I was thinking old house as well, which is what I have, and everything accumulates dust quickly (no furnace, hot water heat). Since I have a husky there is always going to be dog hair no matter how much brushing I do, and of course he brings in dirt from outside, I don't bother with shoes off. I use a microfiber mob with a tiny bit of Bona to pick it up after sweeping the dog hair (it tends to go to the corners and also wrap around the bottoms of chair legs). I vacuum maybe once a week.

When I was a teenager, my parents sent me to my grandma's farm for a few weeks every summer to help her. House was built in 1911 and dirt would find its way in, you'd sweep a couple of times a day and it would be there.
