TJ Essay And SIS Postponed? from this Sat?

I got a feeling they'll offer any kids wanting to retake the test a chance to do so.

The problem with pencil and paper solution is that the quality of writing is generally inferior when the students write by hand.

I could be mistaken but I believe there is a make up day anyway for students who are sick. I don't think those kids get the same prompts.

The purpose of any of these prompts is to find out about the student. The essays are graded holistically and if the student is honest but also realizes this is how the admissions committee finds out about the student's activities and STEM related experiences it's possible to convey the same information with different prompts.

There were also the same significant issues at Luther Jackson MS. Some kids lost a few lines of an essay answer, others lost entire answers. Kids were allowed to stay past the official finish time if they lost material, but a couple of kids who took the test told me that the stress levels were off the charts in that room.

Interesting. The technology HS ends up with technology glitches on its vaunted admissions test.

This will definitely give those kids an advantage.

And if they offer the affected kids new questions, how can they then make meaningful comparisons between the two groups? Everyone should have the same questions at the same time to be fair.

Agree. They should just run it again.

Not sure if DS is willing to put himself thru a retake.

Maybe the technology high school (and not FCPS) should handle the technology issues for its own admissions test.

What.A.Mess.

DS at Jackson did not report any problems.
Also spoke with a family from Kilmer and they had not mentioned any issues.

Sandburg had issues ranging from lost edits to entire essays lost. They took a list of names of those with problems but we have not heard anything else.

I have never heard this before. Why is the quality of writing inferior when students write by hand? Are there studies on this topic available?

Luther Jackson had problems. Dd lost sentences, characters changed, heard other students' essays were scrambled and deleted?!?!?

Since when is life fair? I think it will still be easy to tell which students should go and which should stay.

I understand that some of them didn't even get a chance to sit the test.

Then they can take it when the kids who were sick take it. I don't see a problem.

Another website now discusses the actual questions used this week, so I hope any make-up tests use different questions. I can't imagine how they plan to fix this. What a mess.
