School Open or Closed Wednesday?

Anonymous
Whenever I see kids walking a whole mile to their bus-stops I remember why this darn county closes left and right for weather that half of the country would find pitiful. I'm going with closed.

Signed,
Teacher who really doesn't want to make up days in June, but looks like we're going to have to

Come one. We have six inches at most. There is no reason to close the schools. The main streets are wet. The urban legend of the sliding and crashing school buses is just that. A legend. No child has ever been seriously injured in a school bus crash in the history of Montgomery County.

We are in Mo Co where it borders Ho Co.

We will be on the high end.

You have to understand that no all side streets are cleared at the same time.

I live upcounty and we have 7-8 inches of snow. There is no way MCPS will be open on Wednesday.

I have never seen Moco actually make up any days even when they go over the 4.

You're right. The school year will NEVER be extended. MCPS will just get a waiver from the state.

I think it's 5 planned days. Is tomorrow 4 or 5?

In high schools the extra days are a challenge. AP schedules are fixed, graduation dates are fixed, final exams are pretty much fixed in between those two. So even if they extend the year there is no reason any high schooler would be at school.

Right.

Thank you, MCPS, for getting my child to school and back home safely.

It's 4 planned days and tomorrow is day 4. (Dec. 9-10, Jan 3, Jan 22). Bottom of this link shows the contingency plan. In 2009-2010, when they were out 9 days, they just got a waiver from the state. Talk about actually implementing their plan...
