Email about pool letters

Yeah. I'm stumped by this. 132 sounds like a NNAT cutoff score to me. (It may also be that the CogAT is on the same scale). Last year, however, parents only received the student's percentile scores for the CogAT. The cutoff was at 95%ile for any of the sections.

Two years ago before the FxAT, CogAT COMPOSITE score had to be 132 or above for pool, and NNAT 132 or above. Would be weird if they go back to giving a CogAT numerical score as they only gave a percentile last year. They used to do it by subsection except two years ago, where they changed the benchmark to a composite score. Definitely less competitive if 132 can be on any of the three subsections.

You don't know that because you can't really compare the FxAT to the CogAT since they changed the format of the test.

As you know, your child took a Cognitive Abilities (CogAt) test in the fall of this school year. We are awaiting the results from the FCPS testing office, and will mail them to you just as soon as we receive them. These scores are used as part of the screening for Level IV Advanced Academic Program (AAP) services. If your student scored a 132 or above on any part of the CogAt, you child is automatically included in a pool of students who are screened for Level IV AAP services. If a student did not score a 132 or above, a parent still can refer the student for screening. Parent referrals and accompanying paperwork are due on February 3. Please see the AAP website for forms and FAQs http://www.fcps.edu/is/aap/index.shtml.

While we do not have the scores, we do have the information about the pool students. Pool letters for identified students were put in the mail this afternoon. We realize that with bad weather approaching and with the parent referral deadline of February 3, we need to get this information out to you without waiting for the scores. If your child’s test scores did not qualify him or her for the pool, you will not receive a letter.

No mention of 1st grade NNAT scores as a contributor to eligibility? Is that being phased out?

I think it doesn't mention NNAT because they know parents are waiting on cogat and wanted to alleviate concerns about not having the scores yet

Being in the pool is just one data point. When will FCPS say what the benchmarks are? And if the schools are responsible for sending in pool and cogat/ffx scores- if they are closed, I do think it would warrant a move in deadline for all parties that are interested/concerned.

Scores should come from county, not school.

I fear we don't hear a word until Saturday...

this is the same as last year. there was only 1 week between receiving fxat and the deadline. Frustrating yes, but consistent to the last 2 years.
