Ohio Executes Killer Dennis McGuire

Daughter says it was the worst moment of her life. I wonder what the worst moment of the pregnant newlywed he raped and stabbed's life was?

I don't believe in the death penalty. It's not an effective deterrent, innocent people have been executed, an it's incredibly costly in court costs to keep fighting legal appeals.

Still, there's no "normal" way to die by lethal injection. The article said that it takes an average of people to die in 15 minutes vs. 26. I'm sure they all gasp at the end. Some even vomit and convulse. I'm not sure if 10 extra minutes constitutes torture vs. dying within 15 minutes. I'm sure there's always a lawyer ready to pounce on an "angle."

How can we know for sure it's not a deterrent?

I don't understand what is so difficult about getting lethal injection right. A shit ton of tranquilizers would do the job.

Good excuse to build bleachers in the gas chamber. Fixes prison overcrowding at the same time.

Karma.

I'm a conservative and I don't believe in capital punishment because I'm uncomfortable with the govt deciding when and how someone will die. I think guaranteed life in prison with luxuries would serve much better.

There's a certain karma about having HIM raped and murdered, like someone said up thread, I suppose, but thTs transferring guilt and the weighing down of ones spirit to whomever would be responsible for THAT. I know someone will say they'd experience no guilt over that, but the truth is no one WANTS to be a murderer.

*guaranteed life in prison withOUT luxuries is what I meant, of course.

*transfers guilt .... Damn autocorrect! And wish we could edit posts; other sites allow it so how hard can it be??

I hear you. But I resent having to pay for that, even without luxuries.

I also am uncomfortable with the death penalty....

It costs more to execute prisoners can to keep them for life in prison.

This. Except I'm a liberal.

and if he killed YOUR pregnant wife or sister or cousin or friend?

You'd still be disgusted?

Somehow I highly doubt it.

It's so easy to be humane when it's not about you.

A convicted killer took 26 minutes to die during an execution in which he gasped repeatedly - the longest execution in Ohio since the state resumed capital punishment 15 years ago, records show.

They used an untested cocktail of lethal drugs and the execution took a while; McGuire's family plans to sue.

Well didn't he rape and kill a pregnant woman? I call this Karma. Not feeling sorry for him.

You lose the bet. This does not support your declaration.

“We have forgiven him, but that does not negate the need for him to pay for his actions,” said a statement released by Carol Avery, Stewart’s sister, after McGuire’s death.
