Competitive SIL

Why do you think it's your SIL andnot her husband who is driving this? Seems more likely a sibling type of thing.

let me guess, she will bring three kids to the family holiday event?

I hear you, OP it's probably going to get worse once SIL has kids. My aunt is just like that. Gave her daughter the same name, dressed my cousin in exact the same outfits as my mom dressed me, sent my poor cousin to the same after school activities (cousin is very athletic, but was stuck in all the art classes with me). We are a week apart, went to the same school and looked ridiculous in the same outfits, hairstyles, etc. At 17, I got my first boyfriend and my aunt went bananas. She called my dad ( her brother) to talk about my behavior and although I don't know what she told him, I was grounded for several weeks and got called a whore by my dad. The aunt then had my cousin ask the guy out. Etc etc etc. it was ridiculous and ruined a close relationship with my cousin. My cousin could not endure the pressure from her mom and moved to Asia at the first opportunity. I am pretty close with my mom's side of the family, but only talk to the aunt and cousin to make my dad happy.

Pics of the rare sofa OP. I'm guessing it involves Naugahide?

How rare can it be if she was able to go to the store after seeing it at your house and purchase one right away?

It's not the style of sofa most people have.

Meaning the cushions touch the floor and the feet are in the air? Seriously its a sofa, unless it was custom made for you by fairies - it is not that rare.
