How do you make your hot chocolate?

1. Big chunk of semisweet Caillebaut chocolate from Whole Foods. Real chocolate, not sugar disguised as cocoa powder.

2. Slowly warm and melt in small saucepan.

3. Slowly pour milk into saucepan while mixing in melted chocolate.

4. Miniature marshmallows are optional, the actual chocolate being so rich and creamy. Enjoy!

This is more or less what I do too. Sometimes drop in half a candycane into the cup before pouring cocoa over.

+1, except I warm the milk - I use whole milk - in the saucepan first, then stir in the chopped chocolate, whisk until fully combined. Simmer for a minute, top with a few flecks of fleur de sel and you're good to go!

Me too. I keep trying more gourmet ones but I always come back to Swiss Miss and it always reminds me of the brief couple of years when my family attempted to become decent downhill skiiers. We were pretty terrible. I spent a lot of time in the lodge drinking cheap hot chocolate.

Best hot chocolate I have ever had, though, was Burdick's in Cambridge. Every winter I debate whether to order a box of their insanely ridiculous drinking chocolate, but thus far I haven't because either it won't be as good made at home, or else it will be too good and I will drink it all up. I've only been there twice and I still fantasize about that stuff.

1 tablespoon cocoa powder
1 tablespoon sugar
1 cup milk

Mix the cocoa powder and sugar together well. Add a little milk; mix until you have a smooth paste. Add a little more milk and mix some more. Continue to add milk slowly until you have a thin liquid. Heat until warm.

If I'm doing one serving, I do this in the mug in the microwave. For multiple people, on the stove. For little kids, warm with half the milk then add the rest of the milk and serve in a mug with a straw.

For big kids, add a swoosh of brandy.

Mostly +1.

I add vanilla, never use the microwave. I like to ad Malibu Rum (so lowbrow, so good!) instead of brandy. I've also added cinnamon schnapps.

My bar has good rum and cheap brandy. I add the stuff I use to light on fire for the Christmas Pudding.

I assume you were referring to the Abuelita--

You can get it at most big grocery stores in the area such as Giant. I get it in the "Latin foods" aisle.

Cocoa Powder, boiling water and sweetened condensed milk (like 2 tablespoons) amazing!

I make a big batch of powder mix using Girardelli unsweetened chocolate powder and sugar (also some ginger and cinnamon). Make with milk. Yum!

I add a little ancho chili powder to mine.
