| Been through this w/ my son. One thing I did in addition to reflecting and active listening was to tell him that I would keep myself, and him, safe from his big angry feelings. I let him know that I understood that it could be scary to think and feel such big, angry thoughts and that as his mom I would be able to handle it and keep things under control. It seemed to reassure him and deflate the really big emotions - he'd come around to rational discussion shortly (usually after some tears.) HTH. |
