These are people who I admire --- can you imagine having to leave your home/family/country and risking your life with the hope of finding a menial, back-breaking job in a country where people insult you and where you don't speak the language? That's courage in my book and frankly, most of us are so soft we couldn't do the work or go the distance that these people have. You say you support "family values"???? well, it's the essence of "family values" to put your life on the line by moving to a foreign country so that you can provide food for your children.

Have you ever considered how desperate YOU would have to be to leave your kids/spouse and risk being attacked just to try to find a job? Can you imagine how lonely and isolated it must be to not speak the language in a country where nothing is familiar? Try walking a mile in someone else's shoes.

The places these people are leaving are crapholes, with no jobs, crime and little in the way of social services. They have it night and day better in the US; that's why they come here.

You are either new to the area or are pretty young.

Illegal immigration was a big problem back in the 80's and 90's. The kids entering school now are the kids of those kids whose parents were illegal back then. In other words, the kids now are born here to parents who were born here.

Unless you can cite your source, I doubt this statement is true for most of the kids. The parents I have met speak little to no English. If they were the children of the 80s and 90s that you reference, then they would've gone to school here and learned better English than I am encountering.

These are people who I admire -- Criminals?? --- can you imagine having to leave your home/family/country and risking your life with the hope of finding a menial, back-breaking job in a country where people insult you and where you don't speak the language? That's courage in my book That's saying F You to another country's laws in mine -- and frankly, most of us are so soft we couldn't do the work or go the distance that these people have -- I did that work as a preteen and teen because I was raised in a farm community. Sorry you're so soft. . You say you support "family values"???? well, it's the essence of "family values" to put your life on the line by moving to a foreign country so that you can provide food for your children. Illegal activity=family values, really?

Go let your heart bleed somewhere else. We're in incredible debt because of these louts, and people like you who support their actions.

The writing was on the wall when Prince William cracked down on illegal immigrants a couple years back. Just where did you think they were going to go? Their neighboring county, perhaps? Fairfax should have seen this coming and prepared for it. Instead, they sank money into Gatehouse and continued to shuffle administrators around.

Maybe the best way to get the illegals is to show them this, where they can buy a mcmansion

You Virginians are no better than Arizonans. You don't ask why construction on your McMansions is so cheap or why a sandwich costs $6 here, instead of what it costs in Europe. You are happy to pay these low prices that exist because there are people who will accept low wages. Then when the houses are all built, they suddenly are seen as a liability. You all go to church, but you don't have an ounce of Christian charity.

I would not take these comments to represent all of VA. I'm sure if we asked Jeff to check, it is the same one or two people making these comments. I just ignore them because why give attention to an ignorant person?

Can't they put all the ESOL kids in the same class if there are enough of them?

My son starts kindergarten next year and his school has 4 k classes. It bothers me so much that his school is 30% ESOL.

We just had an addition put on our house and we noticed that the Hispanic guys came early and left late, while the White (rednecks) came at 10:30 and left at 4pm, sometimes earlier, or not at all when there was <gasp> the threat of rain. Hispanics are hard-working, how can that be bad?

But they get separated in 3rd grade for AAP.

I forgot how the county is trying hard to get more minority students into AAP/TJ because apparently TJ admissions are racist.

Except Asians aren't considered a minority even though their % is less than that of blacks and Hispanics.

Hispanics shouldn't really be considered a minority since they represent almost as much as whites.

The federal courts are clear on this, every resident student of a school district has the right to a public education, regardless of their immigration status. That is the law.

Plus, even if a lot of the parents are here illegally, I would venture to guess that a vast majority of the kids are legal because our constitution makes anyone born here US citizens. So a lot of the complaining is about educating US citizens.
