men's watches.....do you notice them?

True, and the ones that wear gaudy watches seem like a dandy or just old.

35 yr old married woman here

I recognize brands I like - vintage Cartier, Longines and brands I think are played out like Rolex and the uber-expensive ones I see advertised in GQ.

When I notice a quality vintage time piece or an elegant, expensive but not a flashy brand I think the guy has great taste and appreciates quality.

When it's a brand new Rolex, Patek, etc. I might think he's a little flashy and obnoxious - but then again I work in consulting for Federal clients and we usually try to avoid flashy displays of wealth so we can relate to our clients.

To pile on to my prior remarks - our non-federal counterparts all have these $10-30k watches because their clients do. It's the male equivalent of having a 2 -4 carat center diamond in your engagement ring so I don't fault them for it since giant rocks are also very common among my female non-Fed counterparts.

I definitely do notice, especially if it's a nice one:Cartier or Panerai. I'm not very impressed by Rolex.

I notice the style of the watch, but never the brand. I've never been a brand loving person though, I just like it if it looks good and is made well.

Nope. My DH wears a watch, but it's a cheap brand that happens to appeal to him and fit well. I wouldn't recognize a name brand watch.

I find it ironic that you find Cartier less flashy than Patek.

This is hilarious! DH and I are both Feds. He has a Rolex (15 years old and very understated so may not flashy) and I wear a Baume and Mercier. No need to wear a Timex to relate to us.

I do notice nice watches.

Yes, I notice.

Also, I agree that PP shouldn't make assumptions about Feds. I'm a Fed with a trust fund and a high earning spouse. The big firm attorneys I work with on a regular basis wouldn't know this unless we start talking about our neighborhoods, where our kids go to school, etc. And there are plenty of Feds whom I work with that also have high-earning private sector spouses.

Yes. DW here. I notice watches, fingernails, shoes, etc.

I didn't until after living in Hong Kong for a few years. My husband caught the watch bug and it seems like it was much more popular/heavily emphasized among guys there. So I notice sometimes but I have absolutely no judgement on the person based on the watch. In fact my favorite watch brand rings in at about 150-300 at most.

No, I notice overall if it's ugly, garish vs. elegant, but I don't know brands. DH has stopped wearing his watch and I'm getting really sick of him asking me the time though.

Please go back to your trust fund bubble. In almost a decade of federal service I have rarely seen a Fed wear a flashy watch.
