would you be ok with 9-yo doing an airplane for goal celebration?

Its just running around the field, I don't think it is gonna be a huge deal that will impact him later in life.

I would love to see that front flip, sounds very cool. No kidding.

My son has always scored 3-13 (yes 13 in one game!) and has never done a celebration dance. He gets red in the face, 1/2 smile and runs back to his side with head down. He's in 2nd grade

I think they're obnoxious for older kids. In K--it can be cute.

SO the good players left the team and now he celebrates like that among the kids who were not good enough to move up?

Everyone gets a trophy right?

Nothing wrong with being thrilled about great performance! I agree that it's especially OK for little kids. I wouldn't encourage older kids to do EXCESSIVE grandstanding if the team were pummelling the other team, maybe.

The important thing is that they are always good sports, congratulating each other afterward, no hard feelings, graceful winners, graceful losers.

by your logic my non-AAP kid shouldn't be thrilled about getting straight As.

What an ass you are.

Just watched that video -- I don't see it as a big deal. It's just running around the field. I'd tell him once per game is ok but not more than that -- he'll p!ss people off esp in this area where everyone is so PC and sensitive.

He's king of the losers now.

An air plain is not considered excessive by the NCAA so I think it is fine, if he is not winning by a lot or he does not fly at the other players.

Celebrating is a part of sports and a part of life.

Being bitter that the other team celebrates is something I would not tolerate.

Those who call 9-yo kids losers are the real losers, internet message board or not. Get a life.

Yeah, no.

Instruct him to shake his teammate's hands. Or maybe even high-five.

Showboating is never acceptable. Scoring goals isn't exceptional anyway -- it's the point of the game.

People that think showboating is great sucked at sports as kids and are living a vicarious life through their children.

Teammates slapping high fives, patting each other on the back, simple fist in air ok--showboat stuff is low class and poor character for older children. Very obnoxious.

I don't mind showboating, but only at the professional level.

otherwise its a bit stupid because you still have a long way to go to be at a level where you've actually achieved something in the game.

even top players like messi and ronaldo don't cheer much after scoring.
