$265, plus bonus and stock options Yes, but I do worry that I have peaked job wise and I still have 20 plus years in the work force. Hard word; my intelligence is only average Yes, but like most working moms I feel completely torn No, we are fortunate but realize I could lose my job at any point |
To put it in perspective, I'm the 34 at $190k. Being at $265 pls bonus and stock - which puts you in the $400k range I imagine, would be pretty fantastic in my view. |

How much money do YOU make? (This is only your individual income- not your HHI) $95k Do you consider yourself successful? (based on your own definition of successful) Yes. I recently returned to the work force after being a SAHM for 5.5 years. I work from home and I'm able to be at school pick up (I have 3 kids) everyday. I'm in a position that really makes a difference in people's lives. What do you think contributed to your success or your lack thereof? (example- an ivy education, good parents, etc? ) I think I'm a kind, likeable person and this comes through fairly quickly once you meet me. As a result I interview well and do well at work. Are you satisfied with your life? Yes. I'm thrilled to be back in the workforce after being home full time for almost 6 years. I would likely be making more (maybe $20K more?) and have more responsiblity had I worked through my entire 30s. But I TREASURE those years I had at home with the kids. Is your level of satisfaction connected to how much money you have? No. |

What do you think contributed to your success or your lack thereof? (example- an ivy education, good parents, etc? ) The jury is still out. Are you satisfied with your life? It depends on the day, I am going through a transition right now. Is your level of satisfaction connected to how much money you have? Not generally, once there is enough, more doesn't add to the level of satisfaction. (However, my definition of "enough" is lower than what I see on DCUM.) |

$130k/yr I think so Hard work - I grew up poor, paid my way through college and grad school working 2-3 jobs at a time Are you satisfied with your life? I am. My job is comfortable with reasonable hours and interesting projects, I have a small child and a wonderful husband Only partly. 35 How much money do YOU make? (This is only your individual income- not your HHI) $90k. Recently left a job paying $150k for work-life balance and industry switch to something more meaningful. Also have a net worth of nearly $6mil. (this all seems relevant to the question). Do you consider yourself successful? (based on your own definition of successful) Moderately. I could be more successful professionally but am not willing to sacrifice the time/energy to do so at this point. What do you think contributed to your success or your lack thereof? (example- an ivy education, good parents, etc? ) Ivy education, supportive parents, born into (not extreme but comfortable) privilege. Are you satisfied with your life? Yes Is your level of satisfaction connected to how much money you have? Yes, but that's not connected to my income (net worth instead). It makes life and marriage significantly easier when long-term financial concerns aren't an issue. |

50 years old married man
Unemployed - used to make $90k Successful in some parts of my life but lousy at making moneyDo you consider yourself successful? My successes are mostly due to my parents/siblings. Lack of success due to bad career choices, a couple bouts of bad luck and lack of ambition. I'm OK with my life. Would like to be more satisfied but there are few people with who I would switch places. Lack of financial security is my biggest single problem in having satisfaction in my life. |
