George H.W. Bush Witnesses Gay Marriage

W. He was actually a war hero, he actually got into Ivy league schools, his political reputation was based on his own name, not a legacy.

And I somewhat agree with you on Bush 41, who would have to run as a Democrat now. But you know his dad was a Yale graduate and two-term Senator from Connecticut, right? I give you the genuine war hero, but not on the other stuff.

Do you think your same standards apply to anyone from a well-connected family, including those with the last name Kennedy?

Yes, they would. And I don't have "standards" about this. I was simply disabusing PP of the entirely incorrect notion that George H.W. Bush was self-made. He, like his sons, was born on third. The difference is that he didn't think he hit a triple.

George HW Bush is the direct product of the marriage of the Walker and Bush families. Honestly, it doesn't get any better than that.

41 is as patrician as they come but for some reason I don't mind him.

Personally, I have always thought that Bush 1 was way more badass than W. He was actually a war hero, he actually got into Ivy league schools, his political reputation was based on his own name, not a legacy.

No, I meant "sheep and wallets." Some of the religious right are just sheep, and some have wallets.

Ah! I just thought that he was rich, not politically connected. Thanks for informing me! But he's still like a bajillion times better than his son.

I now regret hating him so much when he was president because the Republicans got so much worse. OTOH he did open the way for George to become president so maybe some of that hate is still deserved.

Always reward growth and change. He took a step forward, and if more Republicans do it this issue will be done. We just need to set aside our other frustrations and applaud a positive step forward.
