My OB repeatedly reminded me that the odds or PG post tubal are 1/300, and I have read the percentage is slightly higher when having it done post c-section.
(fingers crossed I am not the 1 out of 300) |

Holy Cross can not under any circumstances do them. If any doctor does one at Holy Cross s/he will lose their admitting privileges. I have heard anecdotes of rogue OB's doing it, but they will not admit to it.
This is one of the many problems associated with Catholic dominance of health care in Maryland and across the country. Holy Cross delivers all the babies for uninsured women in Montgomery County as part of a public-private partnership with MoCo. They will not give birth control information to poor uninsured pregnant teenagers and won't do a tubal for immigrant women with 10 kids. HORRIBLE. I know they are one of the inicer maternity wings in the area-- this is because the catholic hospitals have a strategy of dominance in OBGYN care so they can prevent birth control and abortions. If you have any other option, and you care about family planning options for all women, do not send your money to Holy Cross. |
Give me an F***ing break. If you don't like it, don't go there. |
| Agree with pp-as a Catholic, I know our rules and am fine with them. If you don't like our rules--go somewhere else as there are plenty of hospitals in the DC area. |

Actually it's not true that Catholic Hospitals will never do a tubal. I delivered both kids at Georgetown U Hospital and was scheduled for a tubal during my second emergency c-section but chickened out at the last minute.
Now, the ONLY reason they were able to do a tubal on me is that i fit the criteria of "multiple high risk/life threatening pregnancies"....I had severe pre-e and was under general getting blood transfusions for both. My high risk OB said he fully supported my decision to do a tubal and could do it there at Gtown..but again, it was me at last minute that chickened out since I was having another emergency c under general i didnt want to be under anesthesia too long or risk more blood loss. Not sure if Holy Cross has a clause that allows for multiple high risk pregnancies/deliveries s to have tubals but I was glad Gtown did. Still unfortunate that low risk woman dont have this option in Catholic health Care system IMO. |

To 22:24 I think pps point is that poor uninsured women in MoCo cannot choose, Holy Cross is the only hospital that the county has an agreement with for childbirth.
to PP- I think Georgetown has slightly different rules as they are under different ownership, not Trinity, which operates Holy Cross. Trinity is pretty draconian. |
Think of all the good the Catholic church does for the poor, and where many would be without them. Sure they won't give them birth control but they will feed them, give them rent money, clothes, deliver babies and more. There are other organizations that will assist women obtain birth control. I am not sure why some of you think that the Catholic Hospitals and Doctors should be there to accomodate your wants. How about respecting the people who are footing the bill for those who are uninsured? |
| 20:13 PP here- my point is that our tax dollars are going to pay the catholic hospital. They are not delivering the babies for free, they are being paid by the county. And IMO, if an uninsured woman delivers a baby and I pay for it, I want her to have every contraceptive option offered her, tubal, bc, whatever. I think to participate in govt contracts, this should be a bare minimum, otherwise, we're just paying for more unintended pregnancies on and on. |
