English teacher who can't spell?

I think it's dreadful how quickly many of you seem judge and attack this teacher. Why not find out more about his/her story. I had a high school English teacher who could not spell but it was due to dyslexia. It made her far more sympathetic to the kids in her class who did struggle with learning disabilities.

Also, as many posters have pointed out, your story does not add up, OP. If your child is in elementary school "on his/her way to middle school" than he/she shouldn't have a teacher dedicated to English. If, on the other hand, the teacher is responsible for teaching your child in higher level English, spelling should be the least of your concerns. Like the person before me said- bogus thread.

To the poster who said teachers score lowest on SATs- where's your source for this?

Before you bash a teacher, walk in his/her shoes for a day.

Not the PP. Did some looking, and teachers don't score the worst, but they do score significantly below average.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but how can a teacher who can't spell (for whatever reason) teach high school English? It'd be similar to a swim coach who can't swim, or a driver ed instructor who can't drive. I am confused.

Not PP, but spelling is usually not covered in high school English. Literature, grammar, vocabulary, composition, oral communication, etc are. Not saying it doesn't matter, but those analogies are not really accurate. A teacher with a disability that affects his or her spelling can certainly still teach literature interpretation or how to craft a research a paper.
