I hear distant music in the middle of the night

I used to smell chocolate wafting through the air sometimes. Turns out there was a desert factory nearby and they baked at night. Yum! Sweet memories.

Maybe you have a filling that's picking up a radio station. Anyone remember that Gilligan's Island episode?

Yes, this happens to me when my dh accidentally leaves on his iPod. Maybe there is a phone or clock in the house that has a music alarm set

Is it a possessed toy? We have had a few toys start making noises randomly at night -- a puzzle with sounds, an r/c car, and baby toy. They are all out of our house now. Too freaky.

Is Cloris Leachman playing violin in your basement?

OP here. I dont think I have hearing loss/tinnitus, and I haven't taken any meds for a year what with the pregnancy and breastfeeding. I wonder if Im actually dozing off and dreaming. Hypnagogic hallucinations?

I am serious, but perhaps your building is haunted.

You can have auditory hallucinations at night-- it's pretty common. I often think I hear someone calling my name, just as I'm falling asleep. Sometimes I hear music.

Or-- do you have an ipad? Mine has an annoying habit of playing music on its own when I leave my headphones plugged in to it.

Google Musical Ear Syndrome. My MIL has it. Not saying you do, but its worth a look.

Or maybe we're being taken over by aliens from another planet. This is the first sign.

I hear a distant plane engine late at night. I wake up from a dream and I can barely hear it, just a little plane circling far away. I have heard this since I was three. It used to freak me out!! Crazy thing is my DD told me that she hears the same thing. I asked my mom about it and she said she always heard that, but it went away when she was older!! We are haunted by a tiny airplane.

You can have seizures in which you hear music. If you are extremely sleep deprived, you may have passed your seizure threshhold. Everyone has one.
