Wrong. No one is starting WWIII except maybe you? OP, I can see why this would be annoying. And you said it was just a vent. I have a similar MIL. I usually can't help but say "Well, I spend an awful lot of time teaching her...."

They always do stuff like that - applaud little things in her and credit random external factors as if I'm not the one teaching her all these things. She sang the ABC song in the car yesterday and mil said "she's learning so much from television. How wonderful!" Um. No. Your DIL spends time with her kid and that's where she gets this stuff...

Just venting.

1. You're likely being over sensitive. They may just come from a generation/perspective in which parents did not really do that kind of things: school and television did the teaching. My mom NEVER sang the ABCs with me. It's not a dig.
2. Who makes the decisions about tv she watches or schools she attends? You and your husband? Then by proxy, they are praising your daughter AND the choices you make, thus, your parenting.
3. But it is probably easier to get butthurt and act like a 2 year old yourself and whine that they're not constantly telling you, the adult, that you're the perfectest mother ever.
