Vacation budget for families w/HHI of 400+K

We don't actually have a budget (need to get on that).
We spend quite a bit on vacations. Probably $20-30K. HHI is right around 400K. This sounds like an awful lot as I type it out. But also keep in mind that our family is very far from us (one side in Europe, other side in So. Carolina) so these "vacations" are at least 50% of the time combined with seeing parents/grandparents, sisters-brothers/aunts-uncles. If we didn't travel, we wouldn't see them. |

We probably spend $10k/yr. Sometimes more, sometimes less. Usually a big summer trip and a ski trip. Plus some long weekends here and there.
Once our children are a little older we would like to travel more. |

My family is here so no, we have never traveled for Christmas. Have only ever done one Caribbean trip, recently for a milestone birthday with no kids. Just bought the beach house this year so have limited travel to there since. Family cruise coming up this fall - not my idea but we are going. My kids are both young and one of has SN and is very difficult to deal with on a daily basis, much less while traveling. |

I may get flamed for this,but we spend little on vacations. They are generally working vacations, where either my husband or I is working (travel for work) and the other is hanging out with the kids. There's a lot of flexiiblity in our work travel so this works out well.
Kids travel with frequent flyer miles and accommodations and some of foods is paid for. For these big vacations we may spend $3-4k not including FF miles . We then drive to family, so probably <$1k there for Christmas and two summer trips. Thanksgiving family comes to us. Work takes us to nice places (mountains, Europe, Asia) so this works for us. And otherwise, as PPs point out, it would be a huge expense to go that while we could afford it would eat intou our ability to properly keep up our house and private school for kids. HHI is right around $400K. All told, vacation budget is about $5k. |

| Right at $400k...we probably spend $40k/year. After savings and necessities, travel is our priority. We aim for three nice trips a year and 2 or 3 long weekends. |

We are also in the 20-30k category for a family of 5. About 1/2 of that is spent visiting family (or vacationing with them).
HHI averages about 600k. |

| House in the mountains and $0-5k depending on the year but our kids are still preschoolers so there's not much we can do with them and our vacations are basic. I expect the budget will go up once they're old enough that they can appreciate trips to Europe etc. |
