How many ounces does your 5 month old drink a day ?

My DS is seven months and he gets three 5 oz. bottles at daycare he also finished two jars of babyfood at daycare. I feed him once before daycare and he gets more baby food and one more nursing at home in the evenings. I can't imagine that he gets more then 10 oz from the two nursing sessions - so that is only 25 oz. of breast milk a day. He is growing fine - was 18 lbs at 6 months. Daycare always tells me he is hungry and finishes all his food, but I kinda don't buy it. I feel like daycares always feed the babies whatever the parents give and also always say the babies are hungry. Isn't daycare known for that?

So I'm an infant teacher and this one mother decided in order to get her 5 month old to eat oatmeal she would just bring 4 containers of oatmeal. She brought a container with formula but no bottles...She told us to put 3 tsp of formula into the containers of oatmeal...she said she doesnt need the formula. She needs to be hydrated during the day and needs more nutrition...How do I talk to her mom without acting like a know it all?

My little one is 5.5 months and only eats about 20 oz a day!! He is in the third percentile in weight but will not eat any more than he wants!! He's only about 12 pounds now but my ped says he is healthy and reaching his milestones and for him getting enough to eat....he also eats solids twice a day. Some babies are meant to be on the smaller side and some are meant to be bigger...as long as they seem healthy and happy I wouldn't worry!!

In confused cuz I'm a new mom I don't know how much exactly the baby should eat when they r 5 mos. I have a son it's always a force when it's time to feed he doesn't like to eat much I'm kinda worried if he's getting enough nutrients. His weight is very slow but his height is pretty good same as his head growing, I think he's only growing a pound every 2 mos I don't know how to encourage him more to drink his formula . Question how many times a day should I feed my 5 mos old a rice cereal? And if I feed my baby a 6oz of bottle how many hours should I feed him next? Cuz I'm not sure if I'm doing it right cuz I feed him every 4hrs after his last feed

He always finishes every bottle to the dregs and would take more if I offered it. If I offer less than 7 he cries for more. Are we overfeeding??? Is it time to think about solids? It seems early. He was less than 6 lbs at birth and is well over 15 lbs now, and chunky! He does sleep through the night most nights, so I'm not worried about that--is there any other reason to start solids this early? (Sorry to hijack the thread....but if anyone has any input I'd appreciate it.)

I am not a doctor, so you probably want to check with your doctor on this. But, I have always been told not to exceed 32 ounces of formula in a day (breastmilk is different). It even says on the formula container not to exceed 32 ounces in a day. I am wondering if you are misreading some of your baby's cues and feeding him when he is actually crying for something else? Babies like to suck to be soothed, but with formula it is important not to always offer them a bottle when they are crying. He could just be upset and drinking more to be soothed than for hunger. If it has been three hours or less since the last feeding, you should try offering a pacifier or distracting him with something else, or try to find a different way to soothe him. Maybe he is just over tired and needs a nap? 6 bottles of 7 ounces sounds like way too much for a 4 month old. If he is sleeping through the night, he should go 3-4 hours between feedings during the day. Not closer together than 3 hours. That would be only 4-5 bottles a day (depending on the hours he is sleeping at night). I would try to get down to 4 bottles of 7-8 ounces each day, and if that doesn't work, talk to your doctor about solids.

I have a BF baby who I say lacks the mechanism that tells him when he has eaten too much. It takes a little while for baby's stomachs to catch up and signal they are full. With our baby we found that some of the issue is wanting to suck. If we distract him a little after the bottle he settles down. Get up and walk around and see if he still wants to eat after a few minutes.

My 5 month old took only 22-28 oz per day (pumped breastmilk). Now she's 6 mo and taking ~24 oz in addition to about 1/4 cup of solid food per day. So she's apparently not a big eater, but she's >50% in height and weight, so ped is not worried.
