Would I be an idiot to turn down St. Anthony's in Old Town?

I turned down a spot last month. DD is happy in her current school and we love it so it wasn't worth it to us to make her go through a stressful transition.

The volunteer requirements were started by myself and another mom in the late 90s. It is really nice to have parents involved in the classrooms, even though it is "just" daycare. And since we are ALL working moms there, we all know just how precious time is and there is very little competition or envy....it's not like how at my current school there are lots of moms who can work in the school lib for 4 hours in between pilates and lunch with friends. At SADS, the moms all know that each other is also dashing to work, or leaving early from work, while also putting in some time. It's much more collaborative and supportive.... "thanks for handling the holiday cupcakes; I'll crank out some decorations" . We're all in this together.

Annoying Queen Bees are everywhere.

What in the world does this "Annoying Queen Bees" comment mean? The only thing that annoys me about volunteering at my childn's day care are the do-nothing parents who don't volunteer and have no appreciation for the parents who spend from their pockets, forgo sleep, take time off work, etc. to give all of the children in the class a more fun and enriching experience. If it makes me a "Queen Bee" to do my part to serve your child and mine, all I have to say is BZZZZZZZ! I'm sure your child finds those holiday parties, special activities, and other extras (brought to him or her by the Queen and King Bees) REALLY ANNOYING!

how much does SADS cost a month?

Another SADS parent of 4 years. We love the school and have been so much happier at SADS than we were at a previous center that was also NAEYC certified. Our children are learning so much (our 4.5 year old is already doing basic reading and writing) and the teachers are loving, happy, and morale is generally good. I am shocked that SADS parents on here are complaining about the 10-hour-per-family volunteer commitment! To me, it's one of the best things about SADS because it encourages families to be involved with their kids, get to know each other, and establish a sense of community which is so unique! It's what separates SADS from corporate centers like Bright Horizons, where parents drop off and pick up and barely say boo to each other aside from vying for parking spaces! The volunteering is usually directly for your kids... Organizing class parties, helping make sno-cones at the class picnic, etc. all activities that the children to crazy for, which are also unique!

As for parents being snooty....hasn't been my experience at all. Sure there are some who are friendlier than others, but you will always find a few sour pusses at any group setting. The vast majority of parents are fun loving, hardworking professionals who value spending time with their kids and doing the little extras like organizing class parties, soccer clinics, teacher surprises, and even community service type activities. It's a wholesome and rewarding environment and encourages the children in positive ways.

We love SADS and recommend it very highly.

I hear so many glowing reviews of SADS, but I called a few weeks ago to get a tour. The person who answered the phone said someone would call me back to schedule it. No one ever did. Out of all the daycares I called and toured, SADS was the only one that didn't even return my phone call.
