FFX SOL for 5th Grades

Anonymous
here is the deal: 5th grade SOL's matter to the school, and to the teacher. They do not impact the kids. The school needs a certain percent to be rated acceptable by NCLB rules. Teachers are graded based on the students performance.

But, kids are not. I personally hate what SOL's have done to the classroom experience. When DD's AAP class basically spent 3 months prepping for the tests rather than learning, something is wrong.

FWIW, DD got 2 passed advanced (science and writing) and to passed (math and reading). I was surprised by the reading because she is a prolific reader. She reads books 10x faster than my wife.

Life is full of tests even in college. Feel good bullshit follows this ...

Understanding Engineers #1
The graduate with a Science degree asks, "Why does it work?"

The graduate with an Engineering degree asks, "How does it work?"

The graduate with an Accounting degree asks, "How much will it cost?"

The graduate with a Liberal Arts degree asks, "Do you want fries with that?"

Did you ever stop to think she may read quickly but has no comprehension of what she read? A test would verify her knowledge gained from reading.
