Call a neighbor, and ask them to look in your mailbox. |
I held the mail because we are out of town for 2 weeks. |
I always liked to know because it was fun for the kids to know who was in their class. Wanting to know your teacher assignment is not being a 2013 helicopter parent, it is just another way to ease the transition for a young kid who might be anxious by letting them know the name of their teacher and maybe a few friends in their class. Lighten up! |
OP! Thank you for your post. I have been so excited to find this out and today our postcard arrived!!! I don't know anyone but I am happy to know who he has even though we will meet her Friday ![]() |
OP here. Glad I'm not the only one happy to know. Though now that we know, it doesn't mean that much! But we know she has one friend in her class, which is great. (Last year she had no one from her old class in her new class.) |
oh, and yes, I agree it's crazy to say they don't give it out on the phone when they will post it on the door. I think it's just because they don't want to spend their time answering all those calls, and then listening to the parents who want to argue for a reassignment. I'm pretty sure that would happen. It'd be nice if they could tell the out of town person, but if they do it for one, they'd have to do it for all. |
exactly. Excited to meet her on Friday. I just want my son to feel good about a new school ![]() |
I just read this yesterday because I was wondering about this--my son is concerned about first grade. When we got home there was the postcard and he pumped his fist and shouted "YES! YES!" Because he got the 'easy' teacher. I was surprised he knew about the reputations of the teachers... Made me laugh and think of the brother- and sister-hood of DCUM... |
![]() My daughter was happy with her teacher too. (Not one of the three she was really hoping for, but also not the one she wanted to avoid.) |
We got the teacher we wanted but there are going to be 26 kids in the class (K). Yikes |
It's weird because when my son was in kindergarten last year, there were around 24 kids and in his first grade class this year, there are 16. I'm happy about it but I expected more. |
Maybe they have more 1st grade classes so less kids in each? How did it go with 24 kids? I'm a little concerned about 26 to be honest. |
26 in kindergarten?!? that is nuts! |
my dd had 26 in kindergarten and it was fine. She had a great teacher, who was incredibly calm and quiet, and managed to keep the class under control that way. (under control, yet relaxed and pretty free at the same time. I was extemely impressed.)
My kids have had that many (24-26 in every year of elementary and the size has not stopped them from getting a good education. Their teachers have all been good (though I have small complaints.. We've had more than our share of first year teachers. Those teachers have been good, but more rigid and tense than I would like. They became more relaxed in their second years.) I have not found that the large class size keeps them from getting pretty good individual attention. (I say large class size, but actually, it's the size I would have expected. When I was a kid, for all of elementary school we had a class of 50 with two teachers per grade.) |
This year both of our K classes have 28-29 students. |
