Private & Independent Schools
| Does it follow then that Chelsea did not take the SATs or formally apply to colleges? |
Everyone -- please exhibit caution. We have an idiot in our midst. Avoid making eye contact. |

First of all, they are the daughters of the President-elect, moving to a new city in mid-year. I'm not sure how the admissions process could be "the same" as for other kids given such truly unique circumstances.
Additionally, the girls currently attend what is considered to be one of the three elite private schools in Chicago. As another poster stated, there most certainly is a network in which elite schools nation-wide try to help families who are relocating to a new city in the middle of the year. |
Yes and, in fact, she was actually able to fill in the dots on the SAT form into an elaborate array of fanciful geometric shapes and, in some places, scary goblin faces with diamond-shaped heads, and was marked as getting a 1560. For her applications, she ripped up the application forms into small pieces, put them in envelopes, and mailed them. She got early admission at Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, Princeton and Stanford. Where is the justice, I ask you? |
Don't be so sure about that. But the Obamas' kids will go wherever they want, as is the case with any President. |
I agree that there is a lot of unfairness in the admissions process, but I don't think admitting the Obama girls mid-year (without having them go through the "normal" process) is unfair at all. They did not know if he would win last summer when most parents were scheduling tours and testing appointments. They also were admitted to a very competetive school in Chicago on their own merit (their Dad wasn't such a big deal back when the older one got in). They are excellent candidates for all of the schools mentioned. Now what is unfair, IMO, is Sidwell taking Al Gore's son after his stint at STA. |
How about her rhodes scolarship? how was that application done? via owl delivery? |
exactly! and they're all trying to jump through hoops, cos this will mean sooo many applicants, they can cut financial aid altogether, and refurbish the whole school, to boot |
Just a little clarification - while CC did get a graduate degree at Oxford, she was not a Rhodes Scholar (see http://archives.cnn.com/2001/WORLD/europe/10/01/oxford.clinton/index.html) |

ok
I'd thought she did |
| OP, you can't be serious. I am sure any school would be happy to accept the President's children. Please. Even if they go thru some sort of process, you can bet they will get admitted wherever they apply -- just like what happens to all President's kids, I am sure. |
|
Absolutely, you can't be serious. The girls will go to whichever school has the best security layout combined with an excellent academic reputation. And believe me, there will be no tuition.
|
| They'll pay tuition. Public servants can't accept in-kind gifts. |
| For crying out loud, do you have to be so condescending to the OP? Not everyone knows the inner workings of all things Presidential as you guys do  |
| I'm generally anti-condescension, but I don't think it's an innerworking to know that any school would love to have the President's kids attend and that it's a "When do you want to start?" propostion. |
