OP, I would recommend Capitva, South Seas Resort. Great beaches, a very mellow scene, yet there is enough for the parents and the child. Very safe, good places to eat, a shuttle takes you to the town.

from DC proper, Sea Island is a 10 hour drive.
Or fly, DCA to JAX direct and then it's about an hour drive to Sea Island.
