I guess I am one of the "Elite".........

When I read your post my first thought was that you are not the norm for these schools.
Nice to hear that there are people like you at those places as well.

I think there is another reason all those people are whispering.

Maybe it's her hair.

I have many friends whose kids go to the big 3 schools. Some of them are wealthy, some are connected, most aren't particularly wealthy or connected. Neither I, nor my friends (even the wealthy connected ones), would not consider them to be "elite" based on where their kids go to school. And while I hope my kids get into one of these schools when they're old enough, I certainly won't think of myself as "elite" just because they do. And I even dye my hair blonde!

Sorry OP, but your post makes you sound like a social climbing wannabe. I think most of my big 3 friends would agree...

My child is at a "Big Three" school and all of the other kids in my neighborhood attend public school. Trust me OP, their parents have far more important things to discuss than the fact that my son is in a "Big Three" school. I am certain they do not give us a second thought. I wager it's all is your head OP, all the whispering - all in your head!

If they do not give "us" a second thought - who are all these people posting on these boards - full of resentment towards the so-called Big Three and the Families that have "gotten in" with all their so-called "bribery" and "connections"......?? It seems everyone who does not attend these schools has all kinds of ideas of what goes on at these places....there's a thread about all the perfectly dressed Beauvoir students and their blonde moms, their are threads about the connected families who get into Sidwell, their are threads about the "mystique" surrounding STA and Maret - seems to me that the people who have all these ideas about these places are the sames ones who OP is referring to when she meets whem out in public........

To be honest, we are in such a great school district that I really think they feel sorry for me for "wasting" all that $$ sending my child to a private school while they are getting a very good education for their kids for free. If they are whispering about me at all, which I doubt, that is what they would be saying I think. In reality though, I think they are too busy building their extensions and buying beach houses to worry about me and my "big three" child.

I am not the OP.

Though on the other hand, there are women on this board who claim to send their children to Big Three (or comparable schools) and don't have enough money to hire an occasional, part-time babysitter - even though of course they contribute to the school's annual fund! The just want to make sure that their contributions aren't touched by families with SAHMs.

But I digress.

My guess? A lot of the cattiness is coming from the inside! People at Maret are complaining about the admissions policy at Sidwell, and vice versa. Only a very few get accepted into all of the top schools, however you define that.... So there must be something fishing going on at the schools that didn't accept my kid!

Also: now that my kid is at School X, I'm definitely convinced that School X has the only sane curriculum in town! Plus, it's obvious that those admissions folks at School Y are all weasels.
