When do MoCo schools start sending out info about the upcoming school year?

Sounds like they didn't do anything at your Orientation. Didn't you have time to ask the teachers/staff questions?

At the orientation (which I was told nothing about what to expect) they sat me down to fill out a form about what language is spoken in our home, took my daughter across the room to take her picture and ushered me out the door to file her registration (which I'd already done weeks ago in person). This wouldn't have been so bad if she hadn't been nervous on the way there and I'd told her that I would be with her the whole time.

Luckily, she was fine, but I was expecting her to be mad at me. I could have used a heads up though.

They mentioned nothing about supplies, buses nor teacher assignments. And I most certainly did not even get to see the teachers b/c they were all in the room where they were holding the kids.

I know nothing still and am not impressed. I will check online though.

Wow - this was completely not my experience. Our ES had two separate Orientations. One was for the parents only. We met all the K teachers, the Principal, School nurse, etc. They gave a presentation on what to expect in K and then left plenty of time for questions. The second Orientation was by appt for the kids (45 minutes with the teachers) while us parents sat in another room, again, with the Principal and other staff (e.g., after-care reps, school nurse). We turned in paperwork and then had the rest of the time to learn about lunch, buses, how teacher assignments are made, emergency procedures, PTA, etc. Plenty of opportunity to ask questions.

Sorry your experience was subpar.

Give new parents a break. It's like breaking into a good old boys network in K and you are on a need to know only basis.

+100 We switched from private and I was completely baffled the first year at the lack of information and need to know basis. Take it private school is over the top on communication and outreach to parents but MCPS acts like you have 5 heads if you call and ask about school supplies, touring the school if you are transferring in or anything else basic.

This hasn't been my experience at DD's MCPS school. I suppose it all depends on the school.
