Her degree is from the University of Idaho. More like the potato league than the ivy league.

Wow - that is an elitist comment! So are the only capable politicians the ones who go to the Ivy's?

Yes, that's clearly exactly what I was saying. What excellent powers of deduction you have. You must have an Ivy league eduction just like Palin's.

Mr. Steele, your tone and temperament on this board are very consistent. I find that they are often very unfriendly (to say the least) to those who may express opinions different from your own. I was not commenting on Palin or defending her, but responding to what I perceived as your judgment of her alma mater. If you were not implying that her college was substandard, than I apologize for my assumption. I will respectfully add that demeaning comments like yours above do little to foster a healthy debate.

no

I think it's in Alaska.

I completely agree with the above poster. I went to a mid-western University and people are amazed that I am actually a VP of a publishing company. Guess what?!?! People who are minorities, women, those who have disabilities, including those of us with college degrees from potato country can move ahead in this world, just like anyone else.

I resent the implication that having been to a mid-western university is a disability. I myself went to a proper university, but I have many friends who come from potato country. They are good people, if a little slow, and we have much to learn from their child-like simplicity.

That's all well and good but has nothing to do with anything I posted. I responded to a question as to whether Sarah Palin has an Ivy League education. She does not. Her education is far from being Ivy League. That says nothing about the relative value of an Ivy or non-Ivy League education. I myself have a degree from a mid-western state university. I even attended a community college. I benefitted from and value my experience at both institutions, but neither was Ivy League and I would find it laughable if someone suggested otherwise.

LOL. Tragically, sarcasm lacks the appreciation it deserves on DCUM.

I think taking the statement by itself may sound a little snooty, but if you take into account the FIVE schools that Palin had to go to before finally landing at one and finishing a college degree, it calls into question the caliber of her alma mater, hence Jeff's sense of humor calling Palin part of the potato league.

Just remember: "That One" himself once stated (in front of the press) that the USA contains 57 states. Did we jump all over him like this?

That's not exactly what he said. He said that he had visited 57 states. It was clear from the context that he mean to say 47. He was tired and just misspoke.

Say what you will about Obama, but I really don't think you can question his intelligence.

Jeff, I will have to say that at times you can be rough. I detested Ms. Palin, and the people that put her up there, but she brings out the worst in you. You stop being objective when her name is in the sentence.
To me she's just the epitome of White entitlement in this country. Even McCain himself would not have been so bold when he was her age.

I think potatoes are a fine vegetable, despite the bad rep they get from low-carb diets like Atkins.

This woman is a dolt. I don't care which of her five colleges did not pick up on this or bother to teach her the names of the continents. I would not hire an accountant who did not know this, much less a vice-president. And I am quite certain this was not an isolated gap in her education, either.

You just have to think about how well Obama answered the question in the debate on Columbia.

This is not about "Gotcha" questions like "who is the President of Estonia?". This is about having some basic interest and understanding about the rest of the world. Bush displayed exactly the same ignorance/lack of interest. Some of these right-wingers (and I would not include McCain himself in this) feel that their ideology and religion is all they need, and the rest is bunk.
it will be so nice to have a leader who is not an ignoramus.

Although I agree with you, it's Colombia. You just can't go out there guns waving without checking your spelling.
