For me, the sanctity of life trumps other issues (not to say that national security, the economy, taxes, etc. aren't important) and I fear that Obama's stance on life inside the womb will be trivialized and disregarded. |
We've had a pro-life president for 8 years and abortion is still legal. What difference will Obama make on that issue? |
How about Supreme Court appointees? |
How about the sanctity of lives destroyed in war? Not just the military but the unarmed civilians which include children. Let's make a proper exit strategy from Iraq. |
Good. Be scared. Be very, very scared. |
This is a bit of a stretch, I admit, but is intended as a serious philosophical question:
When a man feels lust for a woman, it seems to me that it is the true beginning of a potential human life. Is it not therefore a crime to prevent him from raping her to allow that life to come into being? Obviously (I hope) I am not advocating the legalization of rape, but carrying to a logical conclusion the argument that the potential life trumps the woman's right to control her own body. I know you can argue that creating life is not usually the motivation of the rapist, but if you argue that God's will is being thwarted by abortion, perhaps the future child is also God's will, even if not the rapist's? |
New poster here. I somehow doubt that this is intended as a "serious philosophical question." If I thought it was, I'd suggest you do a little basic research on rape, since you consider it a crime of "lust" and seem unaware of its more basic roots in violence, not to mention its use as a tool of genocide in many conflicts. But since I don't think it really is a serious question, I'll just give you my more immediate, visceral response to your post: It made me want to puke. |
Replying to OP's question, I think the Republicans who represent conservatism and tradition are afraid of "change", changing of the guard, losing the authority that they once held as the majority white population. |
To PP - please get real - there has never been a non-white candidate in EITHER primary party prior to this election............ |
Huh. And what would that make Jesse Jackson? |
A loser. |
PP again. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have written that. I actually met Jackson and his wife at an airport last week on a flight to Chicago. They were very, very nice people. |
LOL actually, this is an old philosphical issue. I believe it was St Thomas Aquinas who said that it is a greater sin to masturbate (and waste God's seed) than it is to rape a woman! Because at least with rape there is a chance for conception. |
Also, all you prolifers, why not get your passions worked up and go out and volunteer/push programs/donate to causes that PREVENT ABORTIONS. Like sex ed, birth control, and sure, all the abstinence education you want.
Please??? |
I am socially liberal and fiscally conservative. I voted for McCain. I am afraid of losing the capitalism that our economy was founded on. Afraid of the tax and spend approach. Afraid we will become a welfare state. |
