Ask any Indian and they'll tell you there are as many kinds of mangoes as Americans have apples. Until a few years ago, most mangoes sold in the US were the ones with green / orange skin and are large. They have a lot of fiber and are hard to cut into slices. Now there are champagne mangoes from Mexico that are light yellow with thinner skin. They have no fibers and are slim and long shaped. I buy them at Bethesda Giant and Whole Foods in season (which is not now) and last week I got some at a Vietnamese deli in Eden Plaza in Falls Church. |
