Yoga or pilates?

I love the yoga at my gym. I always break a sweat. I used to do pilates, but I much prefer yoga.

OP here. This is what I'm afraid of. I loved my DC yoga studio but I moved away from DC and yoga studios aren't so plentiful here. I'm afraid the gym yoga will be a let down and I really need something to get me hooked. I guess I'll just try out a couple of the classes and see which one may have staying power. I tried the pilates mat class on Sunday and while it definitely seemed to be a good workout for the core, it didn't seem like it would be a very good full-body workout. I'll try the gym's power yoga class next.

Pilates mat is not real Pilates.

Love hot yoga. I've had 3 kids and my core has never been stronger.

To be fair, one of the classes I went to was good. It was taught by a woman who has taught in yoga studios before. The other one was what I call "fitness yoga" which might be okay for some people, but just doesn't work for me. There was no initial or final relaxation/meditation phase. It was very fast and essentially on command, with little attention to breath. It was okay for what it was, but there was no yoga in that yoga.

I am not a fan of hot yoga personally (because I am a huge wimp about heat!) but many people like it a lot. I've done it maybe 5 times and every time, it felt like death.
