Need help with baby clothes...

Also, as the weeks go by, you will decide which outfits are easiest for you, how much cuteness matters, etc. I do know people who dressed their 1 mo old in frilly dresses at every outing. Myself, I was all about ease, and only minimally about cute (well, ok, I loved easy AND cute in one outfit).

Yes, this. I did most of my shopping after the baby showers.

OP here - thanks, everyone! This is really helpful. That's a good point. My shower is in a couple weeks. There are just so many cute baby clothes out there! I'm getting sidetracked with sundresses when I should probably focus on cheap onesies that can get poop all over them.

I agree. Or, you could buy newborn stuff, but don't remove the tags and keep the receipts so you can return them if need be. My son was almost 11 pounds and went right into size 3 to 6 months. I had already bought and washed (to be ready) a ton of NB and 0-3 that I was stuck with and couldn't use.

Also, for the first few months, I recommend infant gowns. They make it so much easier to do diaper changes all through the night, when you are so sleep deprived.

Don't do the 0-3 dresses. The velcro swaddlers are very useful.

I second the creeper recommendation--they look like more of an outfit than a onesie, and babies in creepers are adorable! At least the ones that Carter's sells snap at the crotch and all the way up the front, which I liked as you didn't have to pull the whole thing over the baby's head. I would get those in 3 month sizes, though, as a newborn gets colder easily and so a full size sleeper in a light cotton might be better.

And the dresses are cute, but really, don't underestimate how cute a baby in a sleeper is. We have lots of cute dresses for our older baby, but I always think she looks the sweetest in her jammies. Preferably with some kind of animal printed on the bum.

We had something special for coming home - it's a special day and worth it I think. You will take a lot of pictures and it's hard to remember in the daze after just pushing out a baby I love seeing him looking so adorable in that outfit I chose with care.

It is easiest to dress them on footed one pieces. Coping with shirts/pants/socks when they are newborns is a pain.

If I were you I would stock up on one piece outfits and onesies. Save comfy pants/shirts for when they are older.

Whether to use swaddling blankets or a swaddler is personal preference. If you're not sure, get a couple of each.

For size, it depends on how big your baby. Bigger newborns may not use the newborn size at all.
