Anyone have a clip of Biden getting a prank phone call?

Obama's campaign spokesman Robert Gibbs, commenting on the prank, said: "I'm glad we check out our calls before we hand the phone to Barack Obama."

Just in case you think this is an aberration, it's worth remembering that President George HW Bush was pranked while in office by a caller pretending to be the Iranian president (Rafsanjani at the time.) Of course technology wasn't the same then but it is amazing that someone would ever put an important US politician - and like her or not, Palin is one at this time - on the phone with a supposed foreign leader without double-checking.

My favorite part was when he referred to his "advisor," Jonny Halliday, who is an aging French singer.

But I was just embarrassed for her when she said "we love you" to the leader of a G-8 nation. That was just sad.

I hope that she runs in 2012 and 2016. It'll make life easier for real candidates.

It was a stupid prank, and I think it went awry because she was so pleasant to the caller. She's not a moron, and talk like that makes Obama supporters look like mean spirited elitists. Stop it!

How do you double check/verify the caller?

I figure Palin's assistant is the same assistant she has from Alaska - not really sophisticated to know the protocol.

Yikes! I did not know whether to laugh or cry...so I did a little of both (it was all tears anyway). Even if you could forgive Palin for not catching on before he got to the hunting bit (which, geez, should have finally given it away), how can you forgive her inanity up that point? I too was embarrassed for her when she said "we love you" - he is the president of France, not a rock star or TV personality!

I don't think that I can take the anxiety anymore...wake me up when President-Elect Obama is giving his acceptance/victory speech (and if it's, heaven forbid, McCain giving the speech, just don't wake me up until 2012)...

Newsflash: vice president of the world's largest economy, one heartbeat away from running the most powerful military arsenal assembled, is an elite job. It requires training, brains, and the intellectual curiosity to learn anything about governing.

I want my navy seals, surgeons, and firefighters to be elite, and my president and vice president too. If Sarah Palin wants to move in next door to me and run for advisory neighborhood commissioner, great. Good luck parking the snowmobiles, but welcome to the neighborhood.

She's applying to run the free world, people.

And she hasn't read the Constitution yet-- she opined that the press needs to be prevented from criticizing her, a government official, in order to protect her First Amendment rights. That is exactly backwards. Obama, on the other hand, taught constitutional law for ten years, after running the law review at a top law school. It doesn't make him a better person-- it makes him more qualified. It also shows that he wanted this job enough to learn anything about it.

Let's hear it for the elite. Demanding excellence of our public servants isn't elitist-- it's intelligent.

Oh, so that's why he picked Joe Biden! Obama's campaign is just relieved that McCain picked Palin, otherwise Joe's gaffes would fill the evening news every night. Let's hear it for great Vice Presidential Choices. Obama should have taken Hillary Clinton, and I won't forgive him for that!

Am going back and forth on how I feel about this. I can see myself making the same mistake. (After all, what if you called the guy on the prank and it turned out it was Sarkozy! I can see nervously going along.)

But, here's the thing, her responses on this remind me of how she responded to the radio host who called an Alaska Republican rival (Lyda Green, I think) a cancer and a bitch (Green actually had cancer, too). She giggled -- multiple times. And she knew that it was on radio that time. Did she really endorse that view? Or was she just being polite? -- in which case, shouldn't she have had the gonads to stand up to a mean-spirited jerk? I mean, how risky would that have been? The guy was making her look bad so it would have been in her interest to nicely disagree with him.

Okay, okay, I realize I'm bringing in a different occurrence under different circumstances but these two incidents together don't reflect well on her willingness to actually take a stand against people on her side.

Jeff, I posted this on my facebook page and got a lot of laughs. I'm hoping it's one more way for my undecided friends out there to see the enormous stupidity of electing this woman to anything more (beyond her current office) than the VP of the PTA.

Thankd s bunch!

I'm pretty sure someone in the McCain camp would have had a contact and phone number to Sarkozy's office. The caller should have been put on hold while Palin's assistant phoned called one of McCain's aides, got him or her to contact Sarkozy's office and be sure the call was legit, and THEN Palin could have been put on the phone.

Elitists? So be it. A moose looks like an elitist compared to her.
