Hello. Sorry to revive this post but I am also searching for houses in this area. Are RCV and Flower valley still good schools? This is a very old thread. Wonder if OP is still around and successfully found a house. Also, any idea on Woodlin Elementary in Silver Spring.. thank you in advance

We are at FV and very happy, as are most families I know. Can’t speak to the other schools

Yes they are both good schools--Flower Valley real estate is a bit more expensive. Both have schools have great communities. Mine went to rcv but I have friends whose kids went to FV and were very happy. I a kid at Wood MS now and they have friends from schools throughout the cluster.

My son has IEP. Should I still consider FV.. any suggestions. I have heard great things about Flora and Forest Knolls but I do not see any good houses in that area. Any moms and dads that can advice me, will be great.

What are his needs? They have home school model support at FV. And SESES.

I’m a PP at FV. My child at FVES has an IEP. We are very happy with implementation but I don’t know if there are specific supports you need. Try calling the school and asking for a meeting; the principal and Assistant principal are very nice and child focused.

My friends daughter is at FV and has had issues with bullying that weren’t addressed well. It probably depends what kind of kids are in your class.

Ok thank you! I’ll do that. No specific needs, he’s very high functioning. I only want him to be included in a regular class and not pushed to a special needs classroom.

Both are still great schools. If anything, the only change in the last decade is that Flower Valley’s reputation in the neighborhood has improved a bit.

Housing prices have risen considerably in this area. If commuting was not an issue I would consider looking at Olney instead. I would not pay $800K for a house in FV to go to Rockville High.

Rockville HS has an ok reputation. Wouldn’t pay too much for a place in that cluster

There are definitely homes that feed into FVES for less than $800 k. It’s not just the FV neighborhood.

Yeah, you can still find a home in Manor Lake (feeding to FVES) for around $600k.

And Rockville High has its perks: the IB program (without a magnet like RM) is a nice option, and it’s the smallest school in the county. It compares favorably to both Sherwood and Magruder (especially considering commutes), which I’m not sure was the case 10 or 15 years ago.

Bumping this thread to see if folks have recent feedback on Rock Creek Valley or Barnsley. My child will need an IEP. If you have any experience working with the school on that, I’m interested to hear how that went too. Thank you!

Those schools (Rock Creek Valley, Barnsley, and Flower Valley) have always been solid and they all feed into the same middle school and high school which is a great thing so friendships can be maintained from ES all the way through HS. My parents still live in a house in the Rock Creek Valley attendance area and they're now surrounded by young families with kids at that school. They all have nothing but good things to say.
