Not the PP, but no reason to be rude. And, if Hispanics are white, then isn't it redundant to say "white Hispanic"? Using the descriptor white definitely begs the question as to what "other colors" Hispanics might be that the police needed to clarify ths. But, that's off topic. Four Mile Run trail is very heavily wooded and I wouldn't be there alone. I HATE this. I live off the trail and went out for a walk the other late afternoon/early evening and found myself getting jumpy every time a guy approached in the other direction. |
According to the description the guy is about 4'8. If he is a repeat offender the police would certainly recognize the physical description! Unless the height was a typo this guy is several inches shorter than Danny DeVito. |
There are also black Hispanics. That is why the descriptor is used. |
|
Just ran along that stretch where the stabbing occurred. There was a police officer cruising on a motorcycle on the trail.
I bought myself some mace. |
"Hispanic" means Spanish-speaking. "Latino/Latina" means someone from Latin America, usually who is also Spanish-speaking but some people from Brasil self-identify this way. "Chicano/Chicana" means Spanish-speaking, often also Native American, and from communities pre-dating the inclusion of the American Southwest in the United States. Some Latino/a people self-identify as mestizo/a if their ancestry is mixed Spanish and indigenous peoples. There are black Hispanic people throughout Latin America, however the default racial category (on passports and in the Census) for Hispanic people is white. |

Why does it say the "5600 Block of Four Mile Run Trail". There is no such address. It didn't happen on Four Mile Run Road. 5600 Four Mile run is in Alexandria near Shirlington.
I don't understand why the Arlington Police can't provide a trail marker so we know where to watch out!! |
The guy is mobile. Watch out everywhere. |
| Hey where is Aunty Pittypat? I miss her and her delicate constitution. |
It's not the same hispanic male -- it's a common story. Beginning in the early 1990s, the wooded trail sexual assault by a Hispanic guy in the bushes / on a bike has been a staple in the urban core. Chandra Levys case being the most high profile, but there are so many more "minor" ones. |
| This guy is 4 foot 8! That is tiny for a guy! Glad the victim is okay but I thought that was a typo when I first saw it reported! Teeny Weenie guy. |
|
The stabbing occurred on a small rise just 150 yards east of a small underpass that goes under N. Carlin Springs Road. The main W and OD Trail is visible from the top of this small rise. The walkers and bikers could hear the victim scream when she was assaulted on the small rise.
This perp is probably the same guy that attacked/raped a woman in early July 2012 as she jogged at about 7:30 pm on a Saturday evening further east on Four Mile Run. Stay on the main Trail! |

Get a medium to large sized dog and run with it.
|
This isn't correct. You are right that Hispanic is an ethnicity, but it is not a race. Therefore, Hispanics can be of any race- white, black, indigenous American, or Asian. They are most commonly a some mix of the above. |
| The perp who attacked with a knife and the perp who sexually assaulted are likely the same guy. So far, as of late December 2014, there is no reported arrest, so be very careful on the W and OD Trail! Ladies! Stay on the main trail. No scenic shortcuts! |
| Thats it. I am buying pepper spray. I have been meaning to do it but I walk/hike all the time on various trails around DC and have never been attacked. Now I realize how lucky I am (though maybe some of it is that, since reading "The Gift of Fear", I make it clear to any single dude running on the trail that I know exactly where he is, and will often hold eye contact in a polite but firm way until he looks away, while clutching my cell phone. I am not the one to screw with- I would fight HARD and I let them know that. If it makes a guy uncomfortable, well, sorry- but I'd rather be safe and have you feel slightly bad for 30 seconds than get raped!) |
