can we form a "gardening and lawn" forum?

I would like to see more intelligent discussion here on this topic in general.

Whenever anyone asks a landscape question, there's always some curmudgeon who says, "Do it yourself...It's not that hard."

probably aphids.

take a picture and bring it to a free Master Gardener plant clinic--google your county. they have them on weekends at the library and farmers markets

Nice! Thanks!

I would love to balance all of the whining and school-slamming and gross news articles with a lively and informative garden and lawn forum.

Does anyone know of any existing gardening forums? Located elsewhere? Newbie here, would love to know where to start

OP here. Im sure there are gardening forums elsewhere. The convenience of having one on DCUM would be that people already on the list could post topics knowing they would not get lost in the shuffle.

Topics could include
container gardening
vegetable gardening
organic pest control
soil composition and chemistry
challenge plants
landscape challenges
shade vs sun plants
perennials and annuaaaals
garden design ideas
good first garden for newbie (tolerant plants)
climate and weather challenges (longer hotter summer)
solar powered fountain pumps
creating a pond / water garden
correct timing for seasonal gardening maintenance (people could share what they are doing when they are doing it/ask questinos)
canning those excess tomatos for winter
herb garden
keeping pests from the garden
window gardens
indoor terrarium gardens

This is off the top of my head

I cant see how this would not be of interest to lots and lots of people

OP again. Big Duh on my end: Maybe better would be Gardening and Plants? Then we add indoor plants to the mix year round as well as indoor gardening like growing herbs, window gardens. etc.

Then there are greenhouses. DIY greenhouses are interesting and again, year round.

this would be great!

I vote for this, although I tend to vote for every new forum someone suggests lol.

GardenWeb is good

I would appreciate one more for rank amateurs like me, though. It would also be helpful to have on that is metro DC focused in terms of gardening zones, the clay soil so many of us have, raised planting beds, how to deal with English Ivy and bamboo (YUK!), and of course helping gardens deal with the horrid August heat.

I'd also like this forum to give recommendations on landscaping companies both for flower beds and lawns -- not just design/installation, but also for ongoing maintenance.

While I am working on learning how to do it myself, I do find that I need some help from time to time. And I also had some terrible poison ivy last year that has made me wary of working outside because I could never find the PI or whatever was making my skin react.

I think it should be combined with the real estate forum. Like Home and Garden!

another vote for Gardenweb http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/ you can search by name of plant or by theme. very serious gardeners there, also from our areas.

I also vote for a garden forum on DCUM, I posted questions in the past in the RE forum, but a dedicated forum would be great
